I'm not good at voice mimicking (sadly), but I am good at acting. I think it's partly due to the attention to detail; plus I'm a very confident singer/performer so I've found in recent years (I only took up acting 3 years ago) acting has come very naturally to me.
Most of the jobs I've gotten have involved me acting as a "normal" person (I probably do well at this, as it's something I do in real life). I find however, that once I have to act in scenes where there is intensive two way acting and dialogue (not just a little, but a lot) between myself and another person, I fall short; the problem is to act with another person well in that context you both have to be really tuned in to each other's body language, expression, etc and obviously due to my AS I have difficulty reading this to the sort of professional level required.
I find I am often my best in solo monologue scenes (I did these in drama at my final years of school), and naturalistic televised type acting, which I've gotten jobs in.
I really wish I could get involved in musical theatre, and general live theatre also but because of being a full time uni student plus having a singing job I don't have enough time and energy to commit to the sort of intensive rehearsal schedules this type of acting requires. When I was younger I did some of this sort of thing so I have a good idea of the time commitment, stamina and dedication it requires.
I think a lot of Aspies would have trouble succeeding in theatre style live acting because of the toll it takes on your energy and the sort of hours required. I have friends who manage to do theatre acting while attending uni and it frustrates me that I can't do the same. Televised extra type acting pales in comparison to performing on stage.
