A bunch of questions for AS parents

Hey guys,

So, I've seen a number of questions like this, but they never seem to get enough responses (or sufficiently detailed ones) that you could use as good data. I've always wondered about the children of adults with AS (me and many other posters, I know.) But I feel like there are many confounding factors that must contribute to the probability of the child of an AS parent having AS. So, I'd like the aspies that are also parents to answer the following questions:

1) How many children do you have, and what conditions do they have?

2) Is the father(s) of your children NT? If he is, how NT are we talking about: very social, would get nowhere near the border on the Aspie quiz, or maybe would be considered to have traits on the Aspie quiz?

3) Did you get diagnosed before or after your child? (If you got diagnosed after your child, obviously that's different: by definition, everyone diagnosed like this has a child with AS!)

I'm not going to add a poll, since there would be too many options. I think I'll also try to keep this topic active for a while, so I can gather data.

Both me and my wife are Aspie (I don't know if we have really Asperger or we are in the broad autistic spectrum). My daughter (only one for the moment) have many Aspie trait but it's still too young to be sure. At least half of our family is Aspie.

Come on, guys - if I have exactly one reply, that won't make very convincing data . I understand you've replied to this stuff before, but it won't take long...

I wish I had a child.

I don't consider the Aspie Quiz anywhere near valid for judging things so I won't be saying anything about that but my ex (their dad) is NT.

3) Did you get diagnosed before or after your child? (If you got diagnosed after your child, obviously that's different: by definition, everyone diagnosed like this has a child with AS!) Was dx'd after my oldest son was dx'd.

Ah, I wasn't trying to be so particular about the Aspie quiz - I was only trying to use it as a gauge. I was just wondering whether the other parent was somehow 'close' to being an Aspie (for example, I might at this point be 'technically' NT but I'm kind of close to the border.)

1) I have three children. Oldest son has Aspergers, daughter has Rett Syndrome, and youngest has no diagnosis, but will be evaluated, as I suspect he at least has PDD-NOS

2)My husband is NT, but isn't terribly social.

3)I was recognized as having Aspergers before my child.

I have several family members on the spectrum, from severe Autism, to Aspergers.

I have five kids. I have been diagnosed with Asperger's and was diagnosed after my youngest daughter was diagnosed with Autism. It was my husbands idea that I go get tested. I have one undiagnosed 17 year old daughter who we know is aspie. She has been diagnosed with ADD, OCD, Anxiety (both general and social), Sensory dysfunction and auditory processing disorder. She rejects the Asperger diagnosis so our Psychiatrist just breaks it down for her. I have a 22 year old son who has early onset Bi Polar disorder and drug addiction....not diagnosed until age 12. I have one 19 year old daughter who is basically NT but has general anxiety (she is VERY social) and auditory processing disorder. Most recently she has a strange condition which doctors have not been able to diagnose, her intestines telescope into each other (there is a long word for it... intussuseption (sp?) ) also her intestines and stomach swell. She has been tested for everything....Allergies, Celiac, Crones, ect. They cant find anything other than the swelling and telescoping. Those three are from my first marriage, my X husband has Bi Polar disorder. My current marriage I have two children my 7 year old son is Asperger's and my 4 1/2 year old daughter has Autism. My husband is a Doctor of Biology and is not really social but does not have any social anxiety....He has does have many Aspie traits, however. I call him my Halfspie . I also call him my navigator because he helps me navigate life.

I was adopted so I don't share the same genes with my parents. My biological mother was low functning autistic (at the time, the late 80s-early 90's) they said she was just ret*d. But I SWEAR my dad has some AS traits and I think my mom does too. My dad is very intrested in weater and history. He always wanted to be a history teacher and now that I am homeschooled he is mine sometimes. When he's not he always is more than willing to help me with my homework. I think I got my intrest in history and weather from him. He's SUPER nice to people with developmental disabilities I think it's because he understands. He dosen't let me get away with using AS as an excuse but then he dosen't try to change me. He is one of my idols and I love him. My mom NEVER subjected me to things like ABA and only tried to get me the help I actualy needed to help me in life. She NEVER tried to make me into something I wasn't and actualy encouraged my special intrests. My phytracist says I get my special intrest in animals from her and I think he is right. My mother was never upset with my lack of intrest in making friends and is that way herself. She is always telling me to be myself and not change myself for no one. She's one of my idols too and I love her. Sure we've had our hard times but then there is no such thing as a perfect parent.

By the way, when people say their spouse isn't terribly social - what tends to be meant by that? For example, I think my boyfriend is totally NT - he has tons of friends (and has since childhood), he's very socially intuitive and knows how to put people at ease, he doesn't have any routines, etc....

On the other hand, he loathes small talk at dinner parties with people he doesn't know (he easily does small talk with people he knows - he just thinks it's pointless and boring with people you'll never see again). So how would you describe someone like that? He definitely scores as utterly NT on every quiz I've seen, but I don't know if I'd say he's uber social...

I have two children---2 boys ages 8 and 13.
The 8 year old is diagnosed as AS and currently has an IEP at his school.
The 13 year old has AS traits, but he does not want diagnosed.

I am the father, and I am also diagnosed with AS. My wife is NT and relatively social.

I was diagnosed before my 8 year old's diagnosis.

I have two girls. My 4 year old Dx Asperger's back in June. My 6yo we are pretty sure is ADHD.

I was diagnosed on Tuesday.

My husband is NT and has no aspie traits.
