so you hear about children only being fixated on objects and then as they become adults they usually become fixated on subjects, for me always objects. today we went to my bfs friends house to watch the football game, everybody is so use to me, anyways i became obsessed with his friends steamer saucer thing, it opened and closed, soo much fun spent the entire 5 hours flapping, running on my tippy toes, spinning, holding that object opening and closing it over and over and over and over :P . Everybody there, anybody who meets me even once has become use to me, i never ever socialize, they all treat me like im 2, i also only use sign, and if nobody knows sign, i jus make noises, its normal for me and them, but i jus was so fixated on it, was soo excited about, they even engaged with me, they tickle me, pat my head, try to grab it, stupid stuff, but things that open close, make noise if u turn it or something, i looove :D . I'm wonderng if any adults are fixated on objects like the thing i said above or things lilke doors or strings or water bottles like I am :?:

Yes adults can be fixated on things as well. I am fixated on surgical(primarily orthopedic) tools and common household tools. I have collected thousands of both surgical and woodworking tools and I spend hours (usually into the late night/early morning, on my days off) building cabinets, tables, even an artificial heart out of 2 windshield washer pumps. I am 18 and when I engage in these activities I go straight ahead and flap, jump, run on my tippy toes, etc. I absolutely love working with my hands, intending to become an orthopedic surgeon, and I rarely socialize. I am so obsessed with my interests that I work at night to avoid even socializing with my family. Now you know that there really is someone like you, that is fixated on particular objects and pretty much obsessed with certain interests.

Vespa/Lamberetta scooters
Computers of any type
Eating uteisils
High tech gadgets

I tend to fixated on quickly moving lit objects. Like a flame. I love watching flames. Also, plasma orbs or luminglasses. Lightning is another. Something about dancing light, just completely totally hypnotic. Yet irritating as well because bright light hurts my eyes, go figure eh? Sometimes feel like someone who loves ice cream but is lactose intolerant.

But yeah... dancing lights, fire and electricity. If you can consider those objects, then yes, very much so interested in watching.

I am fixated on topics, but there are some objects that for whatever reason I just go nuts over. My favorites are 'squishies' ohhhhhh I love squishies. My daughter found me the best squishie ever last year. I screamed I was so happy. I ran up to her, snatched that thing right out of her hand and set to playing with it for three hours. It is one of those big ones with a blinky light in it that goes off if you smack it. I love that thing. Kind of like these...

I like water bottles and string as well. I can be entertained for awhile with a water bottle as long as it is not terribly full. I like to slosh them around and if they are too full it simply does not work well. It is not the same. Some of the water has to go. You ever put food coloring in a half full water bottle and add a lot of vegetable oil? Heh heh heh. Bubbles in water... good stuff that. That is an acceptable nearly full water bottle. With the string, I crochet, so I make these granny squares and leave a 'tail' on it so I can twist it and spin it around. But I do not get all crazy excited over those like I do over squishies. Oh love the squishies...

Same:

Trading Card Games (running through the cards, looking at the artwork)
Computer games (love the tactile/visual interaction)
Food (more out of flavor and texture than hunger, but not really a gum chewer)
Online movies
Some Toys (especially transformers, liking how they can be manipulated)

Pretty much tactile/visual entities keep me occupied

What is a steamer saucer? XD;; Is it this thing? http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5 ... AA280_.jpg
I have one of those!! They're so cool, I used it last night to steam broccoli. I did play with it a lot when I got it.

But when you said steam.. I thought of steam cleaners. XD STEAM CLEANERS!! OMG do want~~~
I always watch the infomercials totally entranced.

But I think my favorite thing is POCKETS. Like bags with lots of pockets in them. Once I had a pair of pants with 11 pockets. (10 regular.. one secret.)

And when I'm in the store I always touch all the objects and pick them up to see how they work.. some stores are really fun, like REI, (camping store) they have so many cool gadgets and stuff that are so fun to mess with like water pumps and fold-up kitchen supplies and tiny display tents. XD;

Count me in the "water bottle affeccionado group." There's just something ridiculously fascinating about clear objects. I have a palate of water bottles in my garage by the window where the light shines right through late in the day. Very distracting when I need to get in my car to go somewhere, sometimes. :)

Optical equipment also has a sort of look and design I've always found fascinating. Too expensive to collect, but there is (well, used to be) a surplus electronics store nearby that has such stuff and lets people paw it over without pressure to buy.

CDs- I once went to a trade show that included a huge mobile made from hundreds of CDs. It was unforgettable. I have been collecting odd CD's (ie AOL discs) for years, in order to make my own. I will some day. Have you ever seen a "Laser Disc?" They are the size of a vinyl LP record, but look like a CD. They are even more hypnotic.

Fire- the first version of what we now call "Television." Our ancestors gathered at night around the campfire and watched it for hours. I also enjoy watching a good campfire.

I will add to this list cascading water. Fountains can be worth watching, but I prefer a natural creek, with cascading water. The sound is a bonus. Our ancestors must have found the sound very reassuring before we started taking hot and cold running water for granted.

When I was in high school, I often visited a store that sold music albums (before CDs) which also sold the sort of thing you describe having water, coloring, etc. These "bottles" were probably for people to manipulate and look at while stoned, but I liked mine any time.

Has anyone seen the discs that have holograms and painted designs which were designed to be spun? I still have a collection of them from years ago, that I bought at a gift shop in Big Sur California. Spinning objects hold a fascination for me.
