Where I live, the only autism support group is the Autism Society of Central Oklahoma, which hasn't had a functional group for diagnosed adults in years. To be honest, the only Aspies I've met were by complete chance. It makes things incredibly difficult, as I have almost no social support. It's frustrating to have nowhere to go for that sense of community I've been wanting for so long...

Do you have functional groups in your geographic area? What are they like? How did they get started?

There are no support groups in my area (Kansas City) for adults on the spectrum.

There are several groups for parents of children on the spectrum. I attended one of those meetings once. ( I also have a child on the spectrum.) I found it horrible and it made me very confrontational. The parents just sit around and whine at a pity party about how hard they have it. It made me very angry and I gave them all a piece of my mind.
