I wanted a digital Camera for Christmas and my parents got me one YA! So all the 25th I was taking pics of everyone over and over then dad yelled at me about taking his picture. :-( So I'm curious if anyone else had an obsession with getting a new camera taking everyone's picture. Now that I was yelled at I question myself like Why bother taking pics. :-( (But I know if it was for something special say a theme park event family would be ALL FOR me taking my camera.) :-(

What camera did you get?

I use an F31fd (being repaired) but haven't found one as good as that one for both high and low-light situations that is easy to use.

Don't be sad. He shouldn't have yelled at you. I got a new camera in 2008. A kodak easy share. it isn't very fancy, but my old one had broken. I love it. when i got it I took pictures of everyone and anything. :)

It's a long time ago, but this used to be the camera I obsessed about:

I'd still be using it today if it weren't for the inconvenience and expense of the films and processing.....I also used to develop and print my own photos (enlargers are fun 8) ) but that was only black & white, colour being too expensive and complicated for me back then.

I haven't been able to get obsessed with digital cameras so far, mainly because I hate the delay when I press the shutter (I know I can use the continuous shooting mode instead, but old habits die hard), also because I haven't found one yet that can focus down to a couple of inches (I used to be able to fill a frame with a small butterfly). and I tend to need reading glasses to see the display on the modern ones, which is too much of a hassle......I also have a slow learning curve and find it painful to have to suss out the manual for a new device when I've already done that for the old one. But it's great to be able to take hundreds of pictures without having to buy any consumables.

I think it's cool that you got a new camera for Christmas. I think that you should take as many pictures as you want. Your father should never have yelled at you, though. Chances are that if you show verbal disapproval with the special interests or obsessions of an autistic person, that person will start to question whether or not they should be enjoying that special interest or obsession.

Tell them it's no different for them taking lot of pictures during the holidays or vacations than it is for you.

Though I wouldn't call it a big obsession, I have long had a fascination for the Rolleiflex medium format camera. I finally got an excellent condition Rolleiflex Automat like the one pictured here. It is from the early 1950's (I love vintage). I keep it tucked away in a case, and I have never used it.

As for your taking pictures, I really don't see why that is a problem. They should understand that is a new camera for you, and you are enthused about it---of course you want to take pictures. I have taken video in the past for things like Christmas family gatherings and found it to be well-accepted by the family. They are used to me taking video and seem to ignore me doing it.
