I've heard it describe as phasing out, zoning out, screensaver mode etc.
Is this the same as dissociating? Are they all words for the same experience or is it clinically two different things?

Factual and/or theoretical replies are both welcome.

I see dissociation as more like a black out from alcohol where you hear the next day about things you did you have no memory of. You do something but it's like it's not you in control and you have no memory of most of it, usually happens during a very stressful event.
