To make one thing crystal clear
This is why I find psychiatrists amusing. Because all they know is what they were taught in school. They aren't experts; we are. I think all Aspies should see doctors with Aspergers. Wishful thinking, sure, but it's just a thought. Now, if only we had a lot of doctors with Aspergers...

I know some that come to mind there, but they are far to dependent upon "the system" as it is to do much of anything very differently than as traditionally trained.

I think a lot of shrinks must have Asperger's because they;
1) follow the 'shrink boundary' rules come hell or high water
2) can sorta sometimes act like they care, but you know they don't really care
3) can sit and watch you fall apart emotionally but never say anything soothing, they go straight onto 'how to fix that problem'.
4) will cut off all contact if you break the rules, or cause them too much stress,
and
5) are good to talk to you for an hour or so, so long as there's $omething in it for them, but then it's "see ya later Joe and don't-let-the-door-hitcha-on-the azz on the way out!"

Living in a free health care system sure help with that part, psychiatrist here actually delegate to other anything that don't require the attention of a medic, and those delegated to happen to be lot more flexible with their time for more numerous so less crowded then the psychiatrist. Lost count of how much time my therapist took time to listen to me outside of appointed time. Just wish there was more available support specialized in adult autism where I live (lot easier to get support specialized in autism for kid then for adult)

NO THEY DON'T! In fact, they want to CHANGE it!
They are FAMOUS for doing the OPPOSITE!
NOPE, this is an offshoot of what I said in #2, and contradicts your point.
Yeah, like NTs, cats, dogs, elephants, and ANTS! So what else is new?
AGAIN, it is called GREED, and contradicts your points 2 and 3.
FACE IT! MOST psychiatrists/psycologists treat this like a business, and really care little for the patients.

They do when they work
They meet the criteria according to my online friend who lives in Orange County, CA
My shrink took things literal what I say and he get focused on something I say.

I think it was a joke.
And That is what is so disgusting about groups like Autism Speaks.
You could explain until the cows come home and they still will not get it. I have a knuckle cracking stim now and probably messed one of the up. My mom keeps saying I need to stop it but does not understand that if I can only do that if I find another stim to replace it with. I told her I need to do some type of repetive body movement to stay calm. She said I still seem nervous even when I am doing said stim, so it dosen't help. Before I started the knuclke cracking, I would flick my toes until the skin was rubbed raw and bleeding and STILL flicked them until the area turned black. She said I needed to stop that too. The one thing NT's definatly don't understand is special intrests. I knew everything there was to know and then some about meerkats YEARS before Meerkat Manor came out. I was teased, taunted and generaly made to feel like a freak and told my "obsession" wasn't healthy and I needed to "widen my horizons" and generaly just annoyed the hell out of everybody. My family and actual true friends didn't mind though. My parents thought it would be cruel to limit my acess to them, and they too became meerkat experts. But when Meerkat Manor got so popular, people didn't think I was so weird anymore and I was actualy considered cool and normal. Next to meerkats, Lion King was my main special intrest (the basis for the meerkat one) and I was overjoyed to find an online message board for fans, only to discover that these so called fans thought my obsession with it was weird.
Why is it okay to be tottaly obesessed with Japanese cartoons, but not a certian animal? I find NT's weird just as weird as they find me and maybe even weirder.

I'm not weird, you're just too normal.
Aspies will never know what it feels like to be a NT, period.
It works both ways, see?
I do see your point though, I hate NTs who think they know better than me about my own damn condition that I have and live with everyday.
Thing is. We can never understand how it is to be someone else. Feelings are personal, and even if we share the same diagnosis, we might still react differently.
A NT can not fully understand how it is to be another NT, as they cant understand how it is to be an Aspie.
But they can try to understand, have compassion. And so can we. ![]()
