Making assumptions about someone while socialising...

Something I've noticed NTs do often is talk to someone they've just met then make assumptions about them because of what they've said.

A (crappy, I know) example would be:
Me: and the new i7 chip supports hyperthreading...
Someone else: I didn't know you worked with computers

Like I said, bad example, but you get the idea.

Does anyone else find themselves doing such assumptions? I don't, and think it's weird that others do from such little information.

you gave a technical observation and someone else tried to engage you in social conversation. They think you want to socialize so pick out the social connection. You might not want to socialize so you don't pick up on anything but hard technical stuff back, and it confuses both of you. Assumptions are social probing, I have found.
