Sight over sound
I believe we favour sight over sound. By this I mean we need to 'see' the other side of the argument but don't want to be distracted by mindless verbal wanderings in the form of social pleasantries. We want to stay focused in the present, not lose sight of our goals as we know this leads to accidents and failures, which is something we hate because we are perfectionists/ guarded in our lives. We see NT's making blunders because they don't focus and want to play/ get drunk (children want to be entertained - adults want to be informed). We see individuals heading for a fall because of this as well as the present society because it is becoming shallow and childish in the extreme (talentless celebrities as heroes, while the real heroes get on with the real work needed to keep this society running).
