Panic attacks related to mundane things
When I was a kid, I would get panick attacks from the most mundane things I saw on the TV. REAL panic attacks. My mom swears she thought she was going to have to call 911 because she thought I was going to have a heart attack. As I said it was the most mundane things that gave me panic attacks. Yet, I was one of those kids with no sense of real danger. I would run into the street without a care. There was a rumor that some guy's pet mountian lion escaped and I told my mom that if I saw it, I would go play with it. Yet if I saw something strange on the TV or movie theater you might think I was going to have a heart attack. I thought those days were behind me until I saw "The Nozzle" on you tube last night. I don't know why but it gave me a panick attack like the ones I used to expirence as a child. I kinda skimmed though it but later realised I was going to have to see what it was all about. I had to force myself to watch it and thought I was going to have a heart attack. When I was over I was like, "That's what I was afraid of?" It was plotless and entirely stupid. Movies like "The Grudge" or Ring bored me to tears. I probably could have never watched Invader Zim as a kid. I know it was never really intended for kids but I don't think it would give them a panick attack like it probably would me. I remember having a panic attack in the movie theater when I saw a Titan A.E. trailer. Years later I came across it on the TV and watched it to see if it was really as spooky as I thought the trailer seemed. I got a new special intrest that evolved into my special intrest in lizards. Life is funny sometimes.

I get that sometimes over the weirdest things on TV. It doesn't even have to be scary! Sometimes just one of the characters really freaks me out for some reason... I can't go near Monsters Vs Aliens because every time I see that blue blob thing I freak out and get palpitations!

Op... you remind me of my oldest daughter with your post. I get anxious about things, but my daughter... she used to get full blown panic attacks and over the weirdest stuff... usually something she saw on tv.. like some guy with a big head who smiled too wide while standing next to a Buick in his newly opened used car lot... You never knew what was going to scare her.
I remember her being about three years old and she was watching tv with her dad and I was out doing dishes and heard her all of a sudden freaking out and I went to go see what was going on and she was trying to push past me to get in the kitchen. She was running in circles, screaming, crying, her heart was beating out of her chest and after a few seconds she could not cry anymore because she was having trouble breathing. Her dad did not know what was wrong, she just flipped out. When she was calm enough she started talking about the starving kids on the tv and how we had food and we needed to go drive it to them because they were hungry and going to die and we could not let the children die. She was terrified they would all die if we did not go at that very second and she could not live with that. She is 14 now and when she had to start looking into volunteer organizations for njhs, she picked food not bombs so she could feed the hungry. Go figure. Some stuff just sticks with you.
