Seeking diagnosis in Florida

I've googled Autism,Neurologist,Psychologist etc. but nothing linking anyone to dealing with Autism in my area. I found the following site/articles

I was hoping perhaps you guys could help me find something going from what the UK site says I'm considering bringing it up with my physician in Feb. then go from there.

If you can travel to Clearwater, then look up Dr. Rosen. He was the one who diagnosed me three years ago. He is very thorough and quite meticulous in his examinations. I highly recommend him to anyone.

Florida is one of the worst states for people with any form of autism. If you are diagnosed, you can forget getting any kind of decent health insurance.If diagnosed and you have health insurance, you had better hang onto it. Florida also sucks big time when it comes to providing services for autistic adults. In fact there are essentially no services. Please keep all of this in mind when you are seeking official diagnosis. Carefully weigh any possible benefit against the negative impact a diagnosis will have upon your life. If you still want to get a diagnosis for whatever reason, there are a couple of excellent doctors in the Panama City area who can provide one.

Wow! Cyberscan! I didn't think it was that bad WOW! I already have medicare/medicaid and would hate to lose my SSI I'll atleast mention needing a new Psychiatrist to my GP and maybe/maybe not mention AS not sure yet based off your post.

And it's stuff like that that make me wonder why people are fighting the health care bill the Obama is trying to pass so fervently and strongly. It makes no sense to me.

Luckily, I currently have the best health insurance possible, but I lose it in 3 years when I get out of the military. Once that happens it's going to be much more of a nightmare.

I duno... Several people in my support group have received educational and job placement services from Florida state Vocational Rehabilitation services. They received those services because they were diagnosed.

The CARD program at the University of Florida provides life planning and job placement services to persons with Autism Spectrum Conditions. I think it's funded by the state and free to persons needing the services.

I don't know if the insurance thing is correct. I would suspect that having a diagnosed Autistic Spectrum Condition wouldn't disqualify you for Medicare or Medicaid services. I suggest doing some research on their websites and making some phone calls if needed.

I live in Florida as well in Pinellas county, and let me tell you there is more attention to old people than to any other people. Furthermore, there is noooo help for people with autistic spectrum problems in insurance, it's more likely to cause problems. Florida healthcare is an absolute mess!

I am in Tallahasse, and I have just completed the evaluation process with Dr. Marilyn Jennings. Three visits cost $50, the rest was covered by Capital Health Plan. It was explained to us by the center for autism studies at FSU that Florida is in the top 5 states for excellence in diagnosis and treatment of autism-related disorders. Maybe it's worse in other parts of the state, but here, it seems there is a good network of competent psychologists, and resources that will help me to adjust. As for the other posters who said that healthcare in Florida sucks, as always, your mileage may vary.
