When you see someone express strong emotion, do you feel like you do when you're starting to have an overload? Or just severe stress?

I have actually said to people before 'If you ever really need something from me, make sure you ask in a low, cold monotone.'

It's the movement of their face, the fluctuating tone of voice. For some reason this makes me feel...the closest word I think of is "overstimulated". Like when you overstimulate a nerve to the point that it goes dead, and I shut the person out. It's not that I don't care, I will still look after that person and try and solve whatever is upsetting them. It's just that instead of doing what a regular mind does and seeing those signals and reading them then reacting appropriately, my brain is like 'Yaaark!! Stop it!! You make me want to have a seizure!!'

Sorry this post is a little disjointed, that thing is hard to describe.

Yes, I have experienced this.

The display of strong emotion usually disturbs me, but these days I also tend to feel that there might be some way I can help, if it's a negative emotion, and it doesn't paralyse me like it used to. Might be something to do with having been a parent - babies express themselves without any self-control at all, and it's down to the carer to find out what's wrong and to put it right.

I have this problem. I think its the tone of voice that does me. If people get upset it kind of gets high pitched, angry makes them loud and so on. If they stayed neutral it would be better as my response to whatever emotion they are trying to express is to try and resolve the cause not sympathise like NT's do but I can't when they talk like that because it makes me shut down to avoid the stimulus they're creating.

Extremely. I am very sensitive to voice tones that aren't usual.

Yes, sometimes if its too extreme it can be literally painful. Such as being in the presence of someone who's very angry and screaming, regardless of who they're screaming at or why, doesn't matter for me, I feel this little burst of pain in my head, not quite a migraine but enough to ruin my mood.

It seems like emotion for emotions sake. I always think of gorillas and the display they make when they are being dominant, running around beating their chests. Like this person is trying to take up all the space or suck up all the air. Reality tv is full of that stuff and people get rewarded for doing that (I have been watching alot of trash tv at work).

I'm not sure what it is about it but when people display strong emotions near me or towards me I just want to be go as far away as possible from them. It's just really awkward because I have no idea what to do and I don't know what they want from me.

Seems to be an ASD thingy, then. At least I'm not the only one.

Hmm. This is rather interesting. My brother's girlfriend came to our house and confronted him because he had a girl over that had slept with him overnight. I stood there, while she was shouting and crying and stuff. And then I just felt really, really overwhelmed.

I walked into the bathroom and burst out crying. And I couldn't stop thinking about it all day. I felt SO ill :(

Yes and I would feel like I've done everything wrong and might end up going through a meltdown patch and feeling very overwelmed with mixure of feelings.
