I'm starting Aspie Mondays at a bar where they'll show Big Bang Theory. It will be a neurodiverse social night, and will build awareness.

There will also be stim toys, subdued music and lights, drink specials with a library card, and displays of aspie art, poetry, etc.

I need help putting together a playlist of Aspie themed music. There are some threads with peoples picks, but here's a chance for someone to let their DJ talents shine. If you put together a playlist, I'll get the songs and load an ipod.

If you have art or poetry that we can show, please let me know. We'll have digital photo-frames with slideshows, and posters and things.

This is in San Francisco, and will probably get decent media attention, so this is a great opportunity.

Post here or PM me.

Thanks,
-duke

Having it in a bar seems strange to me...because of sensory overload, etc., a bar i
for me is like a snowman in hell - the only question is, which one has a meltdown first! But it sounds like you've taken that into account with the subdued music, etc. Don't forget fresh air - the smell of alcohol or cigarettes gets me every time, but so do some air fresheners!

Good luck with this! Hope it all goes well. If you do get media coverage, do post a link here. :)

And as for music - I suggest music BY Aspies. That way, you've got a definite theme, so you won't just get people submitting lists of their personal favourites. Gary Numan, Ladyhawke, etc.

They don't allow smoking in bars here. I checked the place out and it's really clean, and only had 4 patrons Monday evening, so we won't have a regular crowd to contend with.

My main problems with going out are sensory issues, too, and subdued sound and light were the main requests in a WP thread on what would make a good club.

Oh, and I set up a Facebook group for it: Shred of Dignity

Sounds like you've taken everything into account. Hope it goes well. :)
