I don't like it when people ask me, "Who's your favorite TV/movie star/singer/etc.?" or "Who do you look up to?" That's one of the reasons I don't make a big deal over celebrities dying, play favorites, select mutual friends on Facebook, or make user appreciation threads on here (I've hated them from the start).
That's how I am. I have no interest in any of that stuff, and don't even know who most of the popular stars are. It's beyond me how anyone can care.
But.....now I'm going to contradict myself. I've heard it said that you (AS people) don't choose your special interest, it chooses you. That's certainly been the case with me. A few years ago, for some reason I don't know, I developed a "special interest" in a particular actor. I mean, he's an awesome actor, so I respect him for that, but I'm just completely over the moon about him. I don't think of him as a "movie star" or a "celebrity", but I suppose in some ways he is. But he's a proper
actor, stage and screen, who I greatly admire and respect.
I wouldn't say I "idolize" him, because that world implies that I'm putting him on a pedestal and believing that he's something larger than life. In fact, I admire and respect him because he's a real human being who's had overcome obstacles and work hard like anyone else. So, I absolutely have a favorite actor. I don't make insipid video montages of him, with "Wind Beneath my Wings" as a soundtrack, or participate in gossipy, groupy, stuff, though. That kind of stuff nauseates me.
I'm sure there must be plenty of AS people whose "special interest" is one of these manufactured celebrities like Hanna Montana Cyrey Sirus Milo whatever her name is. Who can explain it? Like I say: You don't choose your special interest; it chooses you.
