All through High school and even now in college i feel as though I have not learned anything, no matter how many books i read or papers i write. the knowledge seems to never sink in my brain. nobody listens to me when i say it.

I never learned anything in school, except maybe roman numerals. Now that I'm not in school I learn more things. My special interests are kind of educational.

I'm sure you haven't learned nothing from school. You probably have a basic understanding of history, math, etc you picked up from school.

I would have to wrack my brain to think of anything anyone taught me in school that has ever been of any use to me in my adult life.

I knew how to read, write and spell before I went there. I suppose I got practice in it until the end of Grade 8. But since I was done with high school, I have never had to write a book report, fail to see the depth in a stereoscopic topographical map, watch condensation form on the outside of a can of ice, use algebra, sing sh***y music in a choir full of people whose voices are changing, try to paint a picture of anything, or much of anything else I ever did there.

School might be a worthwhile endeavor if they taught people how to cope with life after school is over, like how to pay bills on time, how to start accounts, how to rent an apartment or buy a house, how to save money, how to enter the working world, how to do things around the house to save you hundreds or thousands on repairmen... but they don't teach any of that stuff.

Mostly, I learned that it was deadly boring, and that an awful lot of people are complete a**holes.

If you guys claim to never have earned anything in school, how do you use basic algebra, english, etc. Are you saying you missed everything they tought you in class, but AT THE SAME TIME taught yourself everyhthing school has to offer?

No I didn't. I do have a basic understanding now but the only thing I was good at in school was art.
I didn't learn a thing, apart from a few lessons that I found interesting, but it wasn't enough to call basic understanding.
It's hard to understand, but I didn't learn anything. I'd never understand what to do and often would get instructions wrong.

I don't use basic algebra.
I learned english at TAFE college, which is a college to help you get a job, so you really don't need many skills to get into a course.
I basically did teach myself everything in my late teens when I was at TAFE and I'd read a lot.

QTF-I guess they figure parents will teach you this, but my parents never did. I am female and of the generation that when I was young it was assumed that I would marry and a man would take care of all of that. Didn't happen.

I learned how to solder and use various tools in school, my school has quite a few trade classes. I also learned how to do a title page.

Why is it that I only remember the skills learned in the "trade" classes, not the academic ones?

Maybe you are a kinetic or hands on learner. I think I am.

Out of all the years of school... I think I learned the most valuable skills in an on-the-job training class during high school. Skills for interviewing, public speaking, and keeping a job; were the most useful for helping me be able to be independent.

I haven't learnt anything new in school because I happened to know alot of things and my school teached me only the basics in there which I already seemed to know and I had all the top levels in the school for what exam they given me, which was just entry level. :(

I ended up getting offered a place in college and the school thought I was ready to leave abit early... i guess thats pretty good :D

Not much worthwhile.

Basic reading and writing is about all that's worthwhile to me.

I learned that knowledge isn't something that is given to you. Knowledge has to be taken.

School was an incredible resource for me - it made information available to me on a wide variety of subjects. I found lots of great information about history & sociology in English class. I discovered tools for logical reasoning in math class.

I also picked up a number of skills in school that have enriched my life - reading, writing & music, for example.

My brain maintains the information I was really interested in; if I took a subject I hated, I'd forget the material right after finishing the course.
