Do you know this test:
Facial expression test
Average score is between 22 and 30. If you have ASD, you might have difficulties understanding facial expression.

And did you know you can actually train understanding facial expression?
See this website: Training mind reading

I scored 21 on the test, but I must add that there were some words among the answers that I did not know.

that's pretty neat... i am not quite sure how i managed a score of 35 though (?!). my perception of both verbal and non-verbal cues can be found lacking and i can also suffer from face-blindness on occasion.

...maybe it is that in looking at a monitor i have time to contemplate what the correct answer may be, rather than being overwhelmed by a real life situation or exchange. interesting.

A typical score is in the range 22-30. If you scored over 30,
you are very accurate at decoding a person's facial expressions
around their eyes. A score under 22 indicates you find this quite difficult. The correct answers for the ones you missed are:
26: *

I got a 27. Reading facial expressions isn't hard for me. The difficult part for me is making sense of it in context and knowing how to react. Like, I've known people who always look like they are thrilled with whatever you are saying, even if you just told them that you had trouble finding a parking place. And I've known other people who always look like they think you (I) just sprouted antennae. If the person looks irritated, I can see that, but I can't always tell why they are irritated, particularly if nothing happened to irritate me, so maybe the problem is me.

I suspect I have more trouble with that kind of stuff than the average person, but I could be wrong.

I just did this recently and got 21. The first time I did this test, I got 22 (I did it twice).

Wow the test was entertaining, but god damn I can not believe anyone could draw conclusions from any of those pictures. Well I'm definitely in the lower percentile for this proficiency.

I scored 17. Not quite as poor as I thought I would do, but it's still at the lower end :?

I scored a 19. I went through feeling lost and frustrated. In order not to be influenced by the choices, I tried to decide before I looked at the options. Most of the time, nothing even close to my initial impulse was available. And I thought most of them looked thoughtful. I got so excited when that was a choice.

And apparently a guy I decided looked "friendly" actually looked "uneasy." Hmm. That explains why I'm so poor at forming friendships, I suppose. My potentials were actually uneasy all along!

Did anyone else feel panic or frustration trying to take this?

Yes I did. Trying to make even an educated guess about those pictures was a struggle. It's quite an interesting experience to tell you the truth. I'm amazed everyone is scoring so high.

you know, I just thought of something. Do you think that NTs ACTUALLY know people's facial expression very well? I sometimes doubt that, I think they know people's feelings from the way they talk and from remembering very well the circumstances they are in...etc...
