What kinds of vocal stimming do you do? And can one make those sounds in their sleep? I imagine you wouldn't know when you're asleep... :?
I wondered since my roommate has commented that I make noises in my sleep. Half the time I am half-awake when I do it (that, or else it's what wakes me up. Either way, I'm aware I do it). And I wanted to know if it was an aspie thing or what.

That's not a vocal stim, it's just sleep talking. It's not particularly an aspie thing or an NT thing, it happens to anyone.

I see. I don't just do that when I sleep, though.

And my case may not be stimming, but I am curious if it's possible to stim while sleeping.

If you make vocal noises randomly, I believe that's actually called Tourettte's.

Hell YES!! From humming to weird little whines or whistles, I am usually either stimming in some auditory way or in some other way. As for your situation, it could be that different parts of your brain are firing right as you are between sleep and waking, and they are going nuts. Then again, it could also be that you are stimming in your sleep and waking hours. My family used to tell me that when I was little and sleeping that I would sing, hum, whine, talk and just say "aaahhhhhh" in my sleep over and over (usually while flapping my hands). There is a myriad of possibilities in this situation.

I do a lot of vocal stimming, though more so when I feel stressed. It usually includes stammering and sometimes clicking, or just randomly saying "bloody hell".

Much better question than you asked me.
Why not? It could be possible, but I think there are too many things it can be to attribute it to stimming.
And it's probably not possible during sleep paralysis.

And see? Told you. Accounts don't get deleted. Haven't gone here in forever.

My 4 year old son does a lot of what I believe to be vocal stimming. I was worried about Tourette's, but it seems as if he has control over it. At school I think he does it as a way of blocking things out, because his teachers have told me that he starts clapping and singing sometimes when they are trying to show him something. Sometimes at home he gets really loud singing and chanting when my husband and I are trying to talk to each other. Lately, he has started reciting prayers at school. We are Catholic and I was saying the rosary when he was a little baby. A few weeks ago at bedtime, he said "Let's say our prayers" So we have been saying them at night and then he has been saying them a lot at school. That should go over real well in a public school when he gets older! LOL!

When he was about 2, he would just repeat words over and over, and phrases that he heard from TV and radio. I am not sure if that is vocal stimming or if that was how he was learning language.

He really doesn't seem to do any strange sounds, just words and songs-----

I do it all the time out of nowhere but I only do it when I feel so so so so overexcited like I was yesterday and this morning :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

But I tend to sing along with it too just for the pleasure of it and I absolutely love the feeling of it :D

I blow raspberries. That's more of a boredom thing though.
I used to talk in my sleep. I agree that it's something everyone could do though.
I used to sing at school in the playground. I was never embarrassed back then.

Depends on the borderlines and definitions. I whistle a lot when in private. With others around, certain people complain I go into "tuneless humming" - there is actually music going in the head and I do a sort of near whistle that I think is silent though it often annoys others. Could be relevant, since it tends to pattern with my leg jiggling.

Yeah, I think a lot of people make noise in their sleep, just cuz the brain is still doing.. stuff, and it doesn't stop ALL physical action when it sleeps.
It doesn't seem like a stimming thing to me though, since when you're asleep you're not really aware of your body, so it seems less likely you would have the urge to stim..
It also doesn't seem like a Tourette's thing, since isn't that also a kind of an impulse thing? So it seems like it's similar to stimming in some ways, and would also turn off with the rest of your waking actions.
Do you stim in your dreams? XD (I've never thought about it, but now that I do, I don't think I have, personally..)

I tend to say random things that mean nothing. I don't have TS. I am able to stop myself, people with TS cannot.

I used to click my tongue and make weird noises growing up and making my cheeks making a piggy sound. I still do it but not much. I used to whistle all the time and kids hated it.

I do them. I've always liked imitating creatures. I can do some pretty convincing animal impressions because of it, much to my mother's dismay. XD I can also make some pretty unearthly noises. I found out a way to open my throat and use my like....stomach tube to amplify my voice when I speak, it makes it sound like I'm speaking with a vocoder. Fun to surprise people with. XD
