I saw these stuffs on Youtube...

Quote:
Reuben has an IQ of 154, and an obsession for neurology. Reuben also has emotional attachments for inanimate objects and is terrified of crowds.

Reuben finds it hard to fit in and is often bullied. For the first 12 years of his life, no one knew why he was different until he was correctly diagnosed. This programme follows Reuben's every day life and the challenges he faces along the way.

Funny enough, I found this just the other day.
It's quite well done, and everyone is SO BRITISH!! !
Definitely worth watching.

I'm not even going to try and load this (slow internet connection!) but I have seen it before a while ago. It was a good documentary but once again focussed on a very clever person with AS! Can't we have more films about artistic dumb-asses like me!

(I can't count if I try!)

Reuben has a "Harry Potter" feel.

The part where he trips up over the logistics of the buns was pretty funny.

He doesn't have a crazy life. O no, he thought about harming himself!

It's a great documentary, but he strikes me as oddly "normal". He is perhaps a bit "geeky", but he doesn't seem pathologically weird

does one have to seem that way externally?

Agree. His hair, glasses and accent make me think of Harry Potter.

kind off. If you can mask your symptoms then you're not so bad, if you can't then you'll fare a lot worse in life

I didn't watch the whole thing. I was watching the 3rd part, but when they started pointing the camera at total strangers, that creeped me out. Can you imagine sitting out somewhere in public, then someone takes a video of you and puts it on YouTube? What a horrible violation. That really bothers me a lot, so I couldn't continue watching.

Reuben reminded me of my AS son in some ways, except my son is younger, and has no interest in any kind of self-awareness at this point. I didn't see anything strange or bad about his fashion sense, but I'm not a teenager, either. The need to dress a certain way and be interested in football is something I just don't understand. When he was on the train talking about how bad his fashion sense is, he looked just fine. Then he went and tried on a bunch of clothes that I thought were kind of ugly. But who am I to say?

The thing that seems weird is how much he and the others were focusing on his "differences." I mean, in order to even think about making a You Tube video of it, they must all be pretty obsessed with him being "different". But why? Why the fuss?

i think i've masked the stuff the would make one think "oh, he's just autistic (or whatever)", leaving the thought of "he's wierd" or "he's a social ret*d" or something along those lines.

not sure which is worse though, but it would seem to me what's going on in the INSIDE is probably much more important. I got so hung up on how **I** thought I looked on the outside that I managed to convince myself that I didn't have AS, for 10 years...

He reminds me more of Michael from My Family.
I thought it was cute how he really wanted the team to win.
I thought it was a great documentary, they went through everything.
His mother reminds me of mine. I can feel that she does get a bit frustrated when he doesn't let things go.
He might seem normal to some but you know we're all affected by AS differently.
I can relate to his fear of crowds but I don't ask that many questions. Maybe because my mum would just say 'oh I don't know Shanti, it just is like that.'

I just watched this documentary for the second time now, I absolutely love it. Reuben reminds me of me, I am terrified of crowds,I am horrid at social situations, I need instructions to be 100% crystal clear in order for me to understand them and I have a problem with body language. Also i have no fashion sense whatsoever and don't really know how to be fashionabe, I thought he dressed quite nicely though, much more so then I. I want to find out where to write him, and talk to him. If anyone knows where and how I can do that, please could you help me out? Thanks. :D

I watched these last year and thought them very informative and balanced.
I like Reuben. He seems like the kind of person I would actually want to hang out with!
(As is Bravery from WP - another AS woman, who comes to my home and we spend time with each other talking about having AS and a few other aligned interests.)
