I realized today that there are alot of times I might be stimming and not realize it as suck. I often find myself thinl/ trying to achieve something while what I believe is stimming. let me explain

ever since I was little and I still do will often run my foot or hand over an object I can't see and try to figure out what it is by the feel 9 out of 10 times I am right. Then I often try to feel the details of the objectand think about it.

I also will oftne try an see things diffrently for example if I am looking out my window at a row o lights I will see if I can shift my body so that all the lights are coved by one of the beams? n the ++ shape of the window. Then I wil see if I can see them over or under it byclosing on eye thenswitch to the next I will often change objects I am trying to cover with the beam or is it a pane? What do you call those things anyways?

I also try to trace designs in tile floor or dart my eyes from side to side to make objects appear to move

could this be a form of stimming?

I sorta made a similar post some time ago:
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt107935.html

I've been doing the same eye movements ever since I can remember. Even today if I'm in a doctor/dentist/teacher/etc office I don't read the magazines; I just look at the patterns in the carpeting or walls. I dunno if it could be stimming. To me it sparks my imagination to the point where no one knows what the hell is going through my mind.
This post suddenly makes me wanna go hit the interstate for a short road trip to the next city, since there's a lot on the road that'll spark my imagination. Probably do so next Monday.

And it's called a pane, yes.

yes what u do sounds like a form of stimming, like ur stimmin off of something which can be another form of stimming, i dont realize msot of the time im stimming, i gained this new weird habit of spittin i started spitting everywhere, and squatting down and hittin the ground as i spit its weird and its bad, tryin to get that fixed. some stimmin behaviors iw iash i can notice cuz ill be sittin there punching my legs, my face, my eye, my head and not realize it, and it can cause serious consequences. So yes it tounsd like stimming to me what u do.

I often go into my room, put some music on, and flap my hands while daydreaming. I do it at least once a day, and usually for hours at a time. Sometime I'll just walk back and forth, If I want to use my iPhone at the same time or something.

My brain goes way too fast, then way too slow, like some sick carnival ride when I stim. Sometimes I just go mentally blank and stim automatically. My worst stim to date is hitting my head against the wall. I still can't seem to stop it after more than 24 years of being corrected. The pain is a relief when I feel overloaded. I've gotten away with that more destructive stim because I joined karate last year. In karate you have to condition your body to be more tough... by hitting it against extremely hard surfaces. Score!

Same as persian85033, though I can think a little bit if I don't. The thoughts are better while stimming, though, that is, they are of more quality and greater weight.

I find that most of the really dumb things I've said on here are at times when I am unable to stim for whatever reason, and the same carries through in real life. So yes, stimming is very important. 8O

I pick my thumbnail with my fingernails, or my fingernails with my thumbnail when I'm contemplating various concepts in math and physics, or sit and lightly brush my lips/mustache/beard with the side of my finger.

I do an odd sort of meditative stimming to help me go to sleep, to keep myself from thinking all night, I'll sit and blank my thoughts, silence my inner monolog, then sit and uh... it's hard to describe, kinda feels like trying to make my hair stand up by extending my awareness out through my skull in various directions. If that makes any sense... I'll set up rhythmic patterns once I get the whole brain active that make me think of the way cuttlefish fins ripple when they're swimming, or sit and direct it in various directions, all while keeping my inner monolog silent.

I'd do it all the time, as it's very fun, but visual input cancels the effect, gotta be dark and comfortable.

I sit and lock my feet up against my chair and flex my calves, I try my best to keep from grinding my teeth, actually busted a couple molars that got cracked when my wisdom teeth came in... ironic maybe?

Typing is almost like a stim for me, when I think it helps to type at times, and I'll sit and type on my legs sometimes when I'm thinking.

I do think while stimming. Sometimes I play those visual games too. (ok a lot) Sometime my best thinking is while stimming. Either rubbing my fist against my forehead, which replaced banging my head on the wall... or pacing.. or rubbing my thumb over and over on something.

My stim is receptive knuckle cracking and as I'm doing it, I think how wonderful and soothing it feels.

One way you can tell if I'm in deep thought is when I've got my stim on.

I usually think of something calming while I stim, and the nature of the thought is persistent and repetitive. It's difficult to describe my thoughts, but I think in undertones and symbols. I picture different places and sensations that are the result of being in these places, but I do not think about any meanings nor make any logical connections. There is no abstract thought involved.

Definitely!! I stim because it helps me think. Most likely that's some by-product of my ADHDish brain; movement somehow helps--no idea why, but if it works, don't knock it, right?

As a kid, I learned to stim surreptitiously; but since being diagnosed with autism, I've started to let myself do some of the more useful, but more odd-looking things, such as bouncing, rocking, hand-flapping and such. It's rather a relief to give in to the desire to do those things, especially since I think so much better when I do them.
