do any of you quote lines from movies or TV at odd times or over and over.

My main question is does it feel the same as when you get a song stuck in your head where it plays over and over and then it comes out or is it sudden or is it purposeful?

It's usually purposeful. As a kid I think I would just say it at random times. I remember when I brought it up my sister would be like 'you don't even know what it means' because I would probably add it in as a reply to what someone has said and it wouldn't fit.
I've actually caught myself doing proper echolalia. Someone would say something to me and I'd repeat the last few words.

I quote TV lines over and over sometimes. For a while it was "Woo, Steamy", because it made me giggle every time I thought of the character saying it.

More than anything it seems to b a result of my '6 degrees of seperation" brain. I hear something that remind me of a quote and compulsively have to say it. Trying not to do that.
I do sometime have a very hard time not repeating the last few words of a thought or something I or another person says. Not even because it's signifigant, it just gets stuck in my brain and echoes around.

I do this. All the time there are parts of movies or people talking in my head. No voices, but what I've heard before. And later I repeat them. When sb's surprised, I say I quote, it's great memory test!

I do this too, is this a form of echolalia?

Yes, I do this frequently. I have often wondered if it is a complex form of echolochia.

Well, the reason depends.

Sometimes I repeat lines from TV shows very purposely. When discussing the tempering of chocolate, I quoted Alton Brown, word for word. I love Alton Brown. That's as purposeful as it gets.

But sometimes it's like phrases get stuck in my head, and I just have to repeat them. Other times, I repeat what people say to me right back to them. It's because I have trouble understanding the question and need to repeat back while my brain figures it out. If my mom asks me, "What dish do you want to cook this in?" I might say "what dish do you want to cook this in?" followed by "the appropriate vessel!" which is Alton Brown.

Have you sth like this:
- Can you give me ein Lightbeer?*
- Yes, you can give me ein Lightbeer!

But I let me do it only with well known people.

*THIS Lightbeer. It's stronger than me, when I hear give me, I MUST end ...ein Lightbeer
