i live with my parents & sister. I'm 20. whenever the phone or doorbell goes, I'll ignore it, even if im closest to it, whether with or without others in the house, unless its someone im expecting.
just wondered if anyone else is like that.

I hate the sound of a ringing telephone so I do whatever it takes to make it stop.

I just pick the phone up, because I can't stand the sound of a ringing phone, and I keep the conversation, as brief as possible.

Yep I do this all the time. Part of my avoidant behaviours I guess.

Fortunately we don't have a land line and I can always turn off my cell phone. I usually ignore the doorbell, especially when am dressed in pajama and it is 2 p.m... Unexpected guests are too embarrassing for me.

Usually people who come to the door want to sell vacuum cleaners or evangelize. I have no use for either, so no sense in answering. The phone scares the crap out of me- my mom usually answers it.

If the phone rings, and I've already talked to that person, five times already on any given day, than I let the machine get the call.

Well, telephone calls are never for me. So if I'm not the only person in the house, someone else is picking up the phone, because I've stopped caring a long time ago.

Door no, phone sometimes. If I am in the middle of something and the phone rings, I will not stop to answer it.

I hate when the phone rings. I tried to add a sound I like and made it my ringtone but it didn't make it easier on me. I have it set to vibrate. I hate the phone. I never answer my home phone. As for the door I only answer it if I can see who it is. I live in a Town house complex and there are always people outside. I have thought of getting rid of my cell phone. But I need it to keep in touch with my boyfriend. I text a lot because I can't stand talking on the phone.

A lot of times I do ignore it. Most of the time its solicitors. My friends, Jen or Ona or Cordey will let me know if it's them.

We don't have a doorbell but if someone knocks at the door I will answer it. I'm not going to pretend that no one is home, it could be someone delivering something. I don't ignore the phone either. If it rings I will let it go to the answer machine and then if they decide to leave a message I will pick it up once I know who it is. If they don't leave a message then their reason for calling can't have been that important.

1) I never pick up a phone until I know who's on the other end. Leave a message - unless I recognize your voice, I'm not picking up.

2) I never answer a doorbell unless I'm expecting someone. If you didn't call first, don't bother knocking or ringing the bell.

3) And don't try cheating by calling on your cell phone while standing at the front door, smart@ss. I need time to compose myself before your arrival. At least thirty minutes. Also, don't think you can fool me by pretending to be UPS or FedEx - I track my packages online.

Do I need to leave the rules on the Answering machine message and post them on a sign next to the door? Perhaps a web FAQ would be in order...I'll compose one now. Google it.

Sincerely,

Sheldon Cooper :P

A local music store had a promotion going. They called and asked what sort of stereo equipment I had. I answered, but grew nervous, wondering if they were trying to do a scam. They offered to deliver a sample CD of music. I gave them my address for some stupid reason and then when they arrived, I hid in the back of the house. It seemed kind of dodgy anyway, but mainly I didn't want to deal with whoever it was who wanted to give me a free CD.

I have a switch that shuts off the ringer on my phone so I only know someone is calling when the answering machine kicks in. I get a lot of calls where no one leaves a message and that is perfectly fine with me.

Sometimes people ring my doorbell at my apartment. I almost never answer the door. One thing that drives me up the walls is that I have a lot of light in my apartment so if I try to look through the peep hole to see who it is, my shadow will be obvious to anyone in the much darker hallway. They will know that someone is inside and if I don't answer, that will make me seem even weirder than I already seem to be.

Anyway, the short answer is I try not to either answer the phone or the door. I usually answer my cell phone, but lately I have been ignoring a few people on it.

You sound like the subject of what would be a very interesting movie, if I may say so.
