I can't stand watching movies or TV shows where the comedy involves dumb characters playing out ridiculous, contrived situations that just seem so overly convoluted as to be impossible. Such is the essence of farce.

I love parody, stand up, British humor like Monty Python, slapstick, etc. But most sitcoms and modern comedy movies just get me frustrated! I literally get mad at the characters being idiots in whatever situation they're in, while everyone else around me laughs it up.

It's gotten to the point where I just can't even watch them anymore, which can cause conflicts on going out for movie night! Not to mention not being up to snuff on the shows people are currently watching.

Does anyone else get like this over something that isn't even real?

The Hangover

Something about Mary

Dumb and Dumber

Three "must watch" movies I found to be a total waste of my time. My wife and I now have a firm policy. The more people recommend comedies to us, the more sure we are that it's a stupid movie.

Oddly though, there are quite a few comedies I like that really are pretty stupid. I don't think it's really possible to define what will make you laugh and what won't until you've seen it.

I dont watch comedies or sit coms, I dont find them funny, I mostly experience embarrassment and often frustration or irritation and mostly I just cant see what was funny at all.

I do like intellectual humour though such as in QI or 'have I got news for you' (quiz panel shows) and most of the BBC Radio 4 comedy shows which are great!

here is a link to them as they are well worth trying (esp the now show and just a minute and wordaholics)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/programmes/ ... dy/current

I think its one of my worst characteristic and I think most people prefer people who are 'bubbly' with a good sense of humour, where as I am serious, intense and boring which never goes down well.

Awesome thank you! I've listened to "Dead Ringers" on BBC radio and watched some of the episodes, love those! Also, glad to know other people don't like mainstream stuff :D

I don't laugh at the jokes I laugh at the people. Like Jackass, the jokes aren't funny. What makes it funny is there pain. You're talking to the guy who laughed at the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street and laughed at all the Final Destination movie. It isn't about the jokes in these cases, it's about other people's pain. I even watch fear factor for that one reason, I love watching the people eat things and freaking out about it.

I'm the opposite. I tend to feel what the people on the screen are feeling, so if they're in pain or being humiliated, so am I. I can't stand most "comedy" anymore because of that. There are a few older shows that I like, such as Petticoat Junction or My Three Sons. Humor was done differently then.

Trust me, I enjoy things like Monty Python as well. If I am looking for actual jokes I tend to gravitate towards what is unexpected and intelligent and different.

But sometimes I like laughing at people and their pain. I generally don't have enough empathy for people these days.

I tend to not be able to watch shows like Jackass or AFV because of this. I feel the physical pain myself if I see it on screen, because I envision it happening to myself instantaneously.

I actually enjoy most humour.

I enjoy watching sit coms because they calm me down. If I don't get a joke, it doesn't matter because they're just so full of jokes that it's impossible to get everything. If not getting the point means I can't enjoy the rest of it, I won't watch it.

Yeah, I'm like that, too. But only when it comes to physical pain. I can bear watching almost anything else.
