I was just wondering if anyone has seen this before somewhere. I am not dxed AS and may not have it, but I thought I saw some autistic people doing this with their hands, but I am not sure. Basically I do this without thinking about it, but I can stop if I notice it. I found a picture of me where my fingers are in an odd position:

not sure if you've seen the film "mozart and the whale". the two main characters both have asperger syndrome and the boy (josh hartnett) does something with his fingers - especially when he's a bit anxious.

8O OMG! You really need to find another hobby. The condition that causes that also causes deteriorating eyesight, hairy palms, arthritis and eventual insanity. I blame the Internet for this epidemic.

I do weird things with my hands all the time, even long before I knew I had AS. Just one half hour ago, I was doing something with my hands. Not quite that position, though.

Willard, I think you're sarcastic? I want to laugh, but I don't know? 8O :D sarcasm doesn't translate well on the internet for NTs or ASDs. Haha. Hairy palms. Hehehe.

Not sarcastic, just silly. M*st*rb*ti*n jokes are almost as old as fart humor. Hard to know which came first, actually - the jerkin' or the ugh!

That's a pun. Just so there's no confusion... :P

i used to like crossing my middle finger over my index finger then pulling my ring finger over both of them then my pinky over that. I'd have to use my other hand to put them in place though.

I also do what conan mentioned. A friend of mine who's known me since we were kids claims I've always done weird hand postures but I really don't notice.

Wow, weird coincidence...I do that too. The coincidence is that I had just looped my ring finger over my middle as I started reading your post.

When I walk, I bend my wrists, curl my fingers, and stick my thumbs out. I can't seem to control it. As soon as I stop it, I'm doing it again.

My hands are ALWAYS moving. I hate it when it's pointed out, because there isn't much I can do about it really-half the time I don't even know I'm doing it, lol.

It varies for me... from wringing both of my wrists (grabbing with the opposite hand and twisting around them sort of, while wiggling my wrists around quite a bit), twirling my fingers, typing in the air, and just plain hand flapping.

The more aware of it I get, the more I try to stop... and the more I try to stop, the worse it gets because it gets extremely uncomfortable. It's like they just HAVE to move that way.

I've always done weird things with my hands, these days I tend to do it more when I'm falling asleep (like I twist my hands backward and bend them over in this really weird painful looking position).

I curl my left hand up when overwhelmed (I tend to hold it against my chest, as flapping often comes on); I'll take a picture:

I always scratch my middle finger with my thumb. Sometimes, the same action turns into playing with my hair.

I move my fingers in patterns I associate with music. I may also clench my hands into fists or twist them around each other.
