Welcome to All. All are Welcome.

Remember, those of us that are on the Autistic Spectrum somewhere seem to view the world slightly different sometimes.

Some of us.....

...are passionate about our Cause.

...are "soapbox preachers."

...sound angry or gruff.

...are easily offended and get our feelings hurt.

...misunderstand what others are trying to convey.

...say one thing and really mean something totally different.

...are obsessed with one thing.

...are sticklers about grammer and misspelled words.

...seem slightly paranoid.

...seem superior or haughty but merely appear that way, actually having very low self esteem.

...seem like we want to fight.

...can only see our point and seem quite stubborn to different ideas.

...have lives so complicated that we come here to have fun & talk small talk.

...hear small talk all day long and wish to get into deep conversations.

...barely talk to anyone else other than the people here on WP.

All of us like to feel like we belong.

If you can think of other things that might help us all understand each other better, please feel free to contribute to my rambling. I hope all of you understand that I am not "pointing at" ANYONE with this post - because most of these things are how I interact.

Love to all and know that I value every post.

Your friend,
Patti a.k.a Monastic

...Don't get sarcasm.
...Can't tell when you're hurt or angry.
...Are on defense because it's the way they've learned.

Most autistics I've met have a sick but well-meaning sense of humour...

George Carlin-esque...

He's a comedian, can be very abrasive in his humor. He is also an actor and has been in many movies including "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" and "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey". He also is the US narrator for "Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends" and "Shining Time Station" as Mr. Conductor. He has also coined the "Seven Dirty Words", it was a comedy routine of his using the seven words that they didn't allow to broadcast on TV. More can be read about it here as I don't want to post the seven words as they are pretty offensive to some people -> http://www.erenkrantz.com/Humor/SevenDirtyWords.shtml

Here is his biography: http://www.biography.com/search/article ... rge+Carlin

I'm a little more widespread with my interests...some are intense, others are limited.

I am guilty of the preacher thing, actually I have been called a shrink before and I see myself as a professional motivator. It's all for the best though, I get a good feeling when I help people.

And..

George Carlin is just great!! !

Dennis Leary too!! (we use his theme song as our main summer campfire anthem)

My closest friends and I have adopted alot of their policies and it has actually changed my life for the better!

I've got some that relate to me but probably relate to others too.

Understand/pick up sarcasm but don't like it, so often purposley ignore it
Argumentitive, want to have the last word (might just be me, I have a hormonal inbalance)
    Can see through others
    Get frustrted with others

I also thing triats of AS cause conflict here, I mean Understanding things for example, we may not understand things even others here say due to the AS and create conflict.

Bill and ted movies. On move in day the floor in my dorm went down to the basement lobby to watch "awesome adventure" on the big screen TV.

VHS on a rear projection screen really looks like crap.

Some of us.....

- Like to listen to the same part of song over and over again because it sounds so darn good!

- Rock back and forth to aleveiate boredom

- can't understand why some people are content with being less than they can be

- just want to be welcomed for who were are, and not what we have
