So I have this bad habit of playing with my hair, and I had this habit for years now. Yesterday I decided to take a certain approach to this and it seems to be working so far.

And the approach?

Ok, this may sound weird, but hey, it seems to be working. The approach is that I imagine this person pointing a gun/rifle at my head 24/7 and if I ever touch my hair, he/she will press on the trigger and fire. I wouldn't touch my hair if I were you  . So far I would have "died" a few times but I notice it right away. I'm not sure why I have never heard of this approach before. I guess it may cause psychological damage (the thought of someone pointing a gun at your head). But this "threatening" approach seems to work.

So ya, maybe try imagining that someone will kill you if you engage in your bad habit.

Yeah, that could work.

I'll do that, every time I even think about buying an energy drink. I could save a lot of money.

that would not work for me because i know that if somebody cancelled my ticket, i would be in a much better place than i am now. so i need something more immediately aversive but not terminally so. i no longer can grow my hair sufficiently long to have plenty of tendrils to twist 'round my fingers. it is still somewhat long but not so long as to encourage it.
