So, I've noticed that all the people I've suspected are autistic, can clap with one hand. XD Who knows why. I wonder if there's a pattern, because most people can't do it. I couldn't at first, but then tried with my left hand and could. Now I can with my right, too, and I'm getting better at it.

Can you? How loud? The guy I am positive has asperger's syndrome can do it very loud.

I can. I used to love annoying people by going up to them and asking "What's the sound of one hand clapping?" and then doing it at them. I don't know how loud because I don't have a meter handy.

I can, though it's not very loud - about the same volume as heavy breathing.

Yep. :D
I don't know if you can call it clapping, as it doesn't make exactly the same sound. But I guess the mechanism behind it is similar.
The sound of mine is relatively loud, I'd say the same loudness as normal clapping at regular intensity.

Same. I now wonder, though, if everyone actually could.

I saw Bart Simpson do it.

Are there people who really can't do that?

At this point, I am the 1 person who voted "No."

Edit: I never was able to perform the Star Trek "live long and prosper" hand thingy until I practiced it long enough. I could practice effectively clapping with one hand, as well. I don't play with my hands enough to really try it out.

Funny. That a lot of people here can do it. I'll have to ask around school to find out if non-aspies have an equal rate of ability.

It is part of a proper Jeet Kune Do punching motion, the clasping your fingers into a fist from a loose position, I can do it pretty loudly with both hands.

Though my favorite solution for the "what is the sound of one hand clapping?" is to slap your palm against your forehead, or that of the person who asked.

I can, and my left hand is louder than my right, although I don't think either is particularly loud. It starts to get a little sore after a while too.

That's not how I do it, I just close my hand quickly, like waving goodbye.

If a person has very long fingers they will make n=more noise. I think. I have very long spidery fingers, and mine made more noise than my daughter's smaller hand. Yeah- I told her her to do it too, lol.
