It will broadcast on BBC Three tomorrow night (29 April) at 9pm repeated the same night at 11.45pm. It is one-hour long. It follows autistic people who are learning to drive and features Julia Malkin who is one of only two autistic driving instructors in the UK.

It is described in the review here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00s7xwx - as "a touching and inspiring film".

I'd watch it, but I don't have any of the BBC channels. Tell me how it goes. :)

I can't drive. Which suits me fine anyway. Other people can drive me around.

Once again, another brilliant idea for better serving autistics coming from the UK that will likely never see light in the United States.

It really makes me wanna cry out of envy! :P

They do have specialized driving instruction here. I know because that's how I learned to drive. The guy who taught me has also taught people to use hand controls and taught developmentally delayed people to drive to and from work, among other things.

The fact that petrol (aka gas) costs over 3 times as much in the UK as the US is a *not* such brilliant idea from the UK :( I envy the price of petrol in the US! And don't even get me started on our property prices compared to yours....We pay a high price for being British.

I notice you say "another" brilliant idea for better serving autistics in the UK. What was the other one?

I've set my DVD player to timer record this. It seems Channel 4 and BBC are doing autism seasons at the moment, is good :)
