Hello, I don't have asperger's and I don't suspect I have it. I just wanted to post here because I read some things I do that sound similar to this syndrome, and want to know what it could be. Also, I posted on an OCD forum before and a lot of people can't relate because most have homosexual ocd and all that stuff...

Well, I was diagnosed with OCD last year, yet the things I do don't really sound like OCD, and don't really sound like tourette's either. I'll explain what I do. Okay, so a couple years ago, I started this jumping thing, where I just start jumping, and that's why I got diagnosed with OCD. I have control over it, so it's not involuntary. I just got this energy in myself to do it, or when I was excited, nervous, etc. Now, it has changed to something different that I can't really describe, but it involves my whole body and is similar to jumping. I don't think it's OCD because I don't have an obsession beforehand. Sometimes if I am reading something online, and get excited, I will do it. Another thing is that often I will make a noise with my mouth while doing it, like a swishing sound. The only OCD things I have is aligning, not touching doorknobs, and other things. Anyway, I get feelings in my face to move it, and stuff. People have made comments about me moving my eyebrows a lot, and in second grade, I used to do this stuff with my face people asked me about. I used to do this thing with my lips, and this person I know made a comment when I was like 12. It's always changing. Right now, I make a snoring sound, but not really loud enough for people to hear well. I do it not for the sound, but for the feeling it gives in my throat. Oh yeah, back to the sort of jumping thing. When I come home, I just need to let out all this energy and jump up and like move my arms and everything. (Okay, that was a run on sentence. I'm typing fast..not really caring about the grammar right now.) There's more thing I just have to do that feel right, but I don't need to explain.

Another thing is sounds. One time this person in my house was moving these chains all together, and the sound was unbearable. I know everyone can probably hear this, but when the tv is on, yet the cable isn't, I can hear this frequency sound from far away so i can tell it's on, and I can hear the disposable camera sound well (It's a high frequency(I think) sound when you hit that button to make sure the flash is on). I kept asking if anyone heard it, and they said no. Well, when a movie was playing, I couldn't even finish my sentence because the sound was all in my ears and blocking everything. I asked the person if the movie was really loud and bothering them like it was for me, and they said no. I can't stand chewing sounds, whispering, breathing, etc. I used to bang things from anger and to try to block the sound out because of annoying people, and I have to leave the room. When so many people are talking, I want to yell at them all. Another thing is smells and random things. I get headaches from a lot of things..new car smell, driving in cars(although sometimes being driven relaxes me but I need the window down, perfume, laying down and getting up ( i also get head rush and go blind when this happens), sounds, sometimes light, music often, cigarette smoke, humidity (fogginess=instant head ache and weird feeling in head),and other things I can't remember right now..Not sure if this is a sensory thing, but the changes in air affect me..going to higher levels kind of gives me a weird nose feeling, like pressure, and a weird throat feeling..dry air affects me..the sun is harsh on my eyes, but maybe because i barely leave the house

Btw, EVERYONE always says how my voice is so low..they can't hear me..It sounds normal in my head..

Yeah, so if anyone bothered to read all that, what could this be? I know I don't have asperger's because I can understand social cues and all that, but like I said before, I am just posting here to get advice..

By the way, my nickname has nothing to do with OCD or me being a germ freak or whatever. There was just hand sanitizer in front of me at the time I was making this account, so I made me nickname 'HandSanitizer'.

You don't necessarily have to have particular symptoms of Asperger's to have it. I have sensory issues like you and I was diagnosed with Asperger's a few months ago.

I have similar issues with smells giving me headaches, and being very distracted by soft, high pitched noise or lots of people talking at once. I've kind of been in denial over these things bothering me, but they make me frustrated and angry. I don't have a problem with pressure, but going from really cold to really warm places makes me dazed.

I have the exact same problem with older TVs. Only I have an HD TV now, so I don't hear the high-pitched ringing.

I know a heap of people who are hypersensitive to chewing, drinking, sniffing noises, etc - basically hypersensitive to a range of "mouth and nose" noses, regardless of how loud they are. These people are also often hypersensitive to certain repetitive sights: the movement of jaws while eating or drinking, the rapid jiggling of a leg (eg restless leg syndrome).

Most of these people do not have ASDs, although OCD, ADHD, or other anxiety disorders are common. Many also have other kinds of sensory sensitivity (eg to loud or high-pitched sounds, etc).

Yo can read about it here: http://audiology.advanceweb.com/Article/Selective-Sound-Sensitivity-Syndrome.aspx

and here: http://www.soundsensitive.org/

I have this condition. I cannot stand being at the dinner table with one or two other people, because I can hear them eating and that causes an instant burst of rage. I can cope at restaurants much better because the background noises drown out the specific sounds that drive me crazy. Slurping is also excruciating - I am always anxious around people with tea or coffee cups, or eating soup.

My brother also has autism and whenever I'm eating ANYTHING, he tells me I'm eating too loud. He will then proceed to move to another room to eat his meal. The funny thing is that he'll accuse me of eating loudly when I'm not eating at all! :D I feel like he just likes to complain, but other people do tell me I eat loudly without noticing. Then again, he wouldn't notice the sound of his own mastication, because he doesn't eat much fiber...

I can drink coffee, tea, and eat soup without slurping and I think other should learn this skill as well. I hate eating noises. I hate smacking, especially in adults. Once I had peppermint sticks in a jar on my desk for people to take when they wanted. This one girl would smack and make loud sucking noises when she ate one. I think she liked the guys to stare at her because she tended to be suggestive when she did this. Anyway the smacking and slurping noise was aggravating, so when I would see her coming I would hide the jar. Most people just take a stick and leave, but she liked to linger there by my desk, smacking and slurping away. :wall:

I'm pretty sure I don't have it though. I just wanted to post here to see what it could be since asperger's seems to relate to what I do.

Yes, I get rage too, which I think I mentioned. Swallowing also bothers me. Thanks for the links. I wonder what the 'tics' are though.

Yeah, that does seem weird to accuse you when you're not even eating, but maybe he mistakes the sound..?

I get ticks in my wrists, from time to time.
