Hi all!
I'm new here and I would like to share this incredible inspiring video with you. The video is on Brandon who was diagnosed with autism. After working with The Son-Rise Program she recovered from autism. You can find it by going to Youtube and search for Brandon Son-Rise.

To me The Son-Rise Program is amazing! And when I watch a video like this one it really makes me question when people say that autism can't be cured. What are your thoughts on this?

Warm regards,
Sencho

Some of the traits of autism can be presented in a way that is less noticeable and contradictory to society. However, one can never really be "cured" of the arrangement of neurons that makes them precisely the person that they are, nor would most people, especially on this forum, want to be. There is a difference between a treatment and a cure: while I agree that treatments should be offered to all who wish to receive them, I do not think that a cure is either possible or preferable.

If I come off as hostile, I apologize; I understand that you only meant to send your warmest regards and that you wish to help those who you perceive to need help.

[Edit] Son-Rise May Not Be As Effective As One Would Like To Think

Ouch!

I can't view your video anyway (bandwidth limitations); however:

1. Going onto a website such as this and talking about cures for autism is likely to get you some negative responses. It is like going onto a support site for gay people saying you have found a cure for homosexuality!

2. I am dubious of any claims that autism can be "cured" anyway. Our brains are wired differently from birth. I can't see anything changing that wiring. Sure we can learn to read body language better with training and can improve our social skills to a certain extent; but a cure? Frankly I don't believe there is any means of turning us into neurotypical beings. Those issues aside there are also often physiological issues too that no amount of "Programs" is going to fix.

The only cure for Autism there is and ever will be is death. I'm not fond of that cure...

If you or your child have Autism learn to accept and even embrace your differences.

My son made the same regression and is making many of the same advances without therapy just attentive parenting, he's not being cured he's growing up. The boy in the video isn't cured, I can see him stimming by bouncing up and down on the couch in order to speak, he's adapting. Not that there is anything wrong with intuitive therapy and many parents need support, but the word cure can be offensive and misleading most everyone here knows this.

Yep, I mean maybe people like Temple Grandin wouldn't have become verbal without intensive intervention and if that can help people to interact more with the world then great but it's pretty stupid and offensive to claim that such people have 'recovered' from autism. Temple Grandin is still as autistic as she ever was and has dramatic brain scans to prove it.

Something that many seem to miss: What NT's just pick up naturally, Spectrumites can learn cognitively. Although there is no "cure" that will make the brain NT, it is very possible to learn enough to blend and be comfortable in an NT world.

If I recall correctly, Son-Rise emphasizes mirroring autistic behavior? entering the LFA's world? It seems to me this would help them cognitively learn communicate.
