ive just found out from this autism conference i went to today about this reaserch program that will pay me money to participate all i have to do is find transportation from my home (in long island) to columbia university in Manhattan at the NY State Psychiatric Institute where they will MRI my brain in research for comparing the brains of those on the autistic spectrum with neurotypicals they will pay me $80 cash also they will do a round of Neuropsychological testing (IQ test, memory tests, social functioing tests ect.) and pay me $50 cash for that

and i get to keep a copy of my results for my own use (if i were to get this testing done on my own it would cost alot of money!! !! !! !! !!)

so this is a win win situation

has anyone here ever participated in a study before?

I don't mean to rain on your parade but that sounds like a lot of work to call the money they are giving you "free." $80.00 for laying in a hollow tube when it sounds like they are pounding on the sides with mallets for hours and all you have to do is pay to sit on a commuter train from Long Island and then ride all the way back home? I have a feeling you will know you definitely worked for your money.

Well, of course she's going to work for it. It's not technically free. But it IS money, and for doing something that's not generally regarded to be "work". Plus--the neuropsych testing IS free, and if my experiences with it were any indication, it can be quite interesting to do (some parts are boring, but that's true of any job).

I think it sounds interesting.

I got $20 for participating in a study that was required for a class I took. Technically, it wasn't required, but the alternative was writing a seven-page paper. I got twenty bucks for not writing a paper, pretty sweet deal!

That is really poor pay for doing a study. I used to get $125 to $285 per day for doing that.

Check this out for some real money doing studys

remember they are making 100's of millions or getting fat gov grants to do this. You need to demand what you are
worth.

From where I live, you don't get money free, you have to work for it and the other money (DLA or income support) is mainly to help you survive an everyday life.
So if anybody wants to live in London, chances are, you would be struggling and constantly having to budget.

Apparently if you are severely autistic, you can get a high amount of money up to £400 per month, but for me, I only earned £250 a month due to being just moderate until up to recently, they dropped it to £150 (low rate) since they see me as very capable which I think is a good thing to be seen but having to try save up but got alot of useful things to pay for, well it wouldn't last me.

I also get £30 per week just for attending at college. (EMA)

Pretty neat I guess. :D

If you are willing to sell your soul to the likes of Glaxo Smith Gylne et al

Then you can actually earn quite a fair bit of money participating in drug trials and studies in London and the surrounding region.

However the reason they pay you so much to do these trials is effectively your letting them use your body as a test tube for their new medical treatments. So you may end up like those six people who were on the news a year or so back who suffered severe allergic reaction to the trial and nearly ended up dying.
