Yes, I know a family close by with two or three older children diagnosed with AS or HFA, as well as one of the parents with undiagnosed AS. And my own extended family has up to three people with undiagnosed AS (i.e. me, a sibling, and that sibling's child).

All of my students are Aspie. I also have a friend who lives about 120 miles away who is HFA.

My boyfriend and his father both have AS, and his mother was also recently diagnosed (though she was upset about it because she'd always liked to think of herself as "the normal one in the family" haha.)
I also have a friend I went to summer camp with as a child who I'm almost certain has AS, though she has no idea. I think she's in the same boat that I was in until recently, and thinks of AS/autism as an only low functioning thing. She's very "textbook" AS though. I wish I could say something, but I feel like it would be offensive to say to someone out of the blue, "I think you have Asperger's." Especially someone who's relatively naive about what it means...

None of my close friends have AS, though we all work well together because most of them display some characteristic or another. All my "NT" friends have either anxiety disorders, OCD, or something of the sort, and I have one friend who's totally normal except that she obsesses about things in a very AS way. It's nice because she understands my obsessing over things, and we can talk about our interests together haha (her thing is linguistics/anthropology, and mine is forensic science/biology).

I know quite a few people who I suspect strongly to have AS. It something which I do not talk about with these people, also as oneday I might get outed (or out myself) it is better if I do not leave a trail of bread crumbs leading to a person who might have AS who might not want to be outed.

I suggest that anyone else posting in this thread should consider if their comments might lead to the outing of an aspie. If in doubt do not post any information, if we have a series of outings of people who do not wanted to be outed here (in the way the gay community had in the 1980s and 1990s) then it could stir up a lot of trouble here and create untold suffering for some of our members.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

I know lots of other autistic people. Not just "AS/HFA" either (and I don't fall into either of those categories). I have met easily hundreds, and if course the number I know extremely well is smaller, know well slightly larger than that, know is larger than that, etc. on a continuum all the way out to just having met them.

I thought John's ex wife had it. I saw him here in Portland when he talked about his book and I asked if his ex had it and he said yes. Though I don't think she was diagnosed then.

Yeah, she wasn't diagnosed until just a few months ago. I actually don't think she has an official diagnosis yet, though the TMS lab has offered her a position with their research.
To be honest, I really did think she was "the normal one" (well, not normal, but not AS).
