I've noticed that I have a tendency to run and bump into people in crowded places, like railway stations or large town squares. Somehow I seem to be very bad at predicting the direction of "flow" of large groups of people. This has gotten me in potentially dangerous situations a few times now. Also, it happens quite a lot that some person and I both want to go through the same narrow opening (like a corridor or a "lane" in a block of people) in opposite directions, and that we keep stepping aside for each other "in sync" so to say. Finally, there's this mall where people somehow automatically split in two streams according to in which direction their walking, and I always seem to be the last to notice.

I have no idea whether this related to AS or more to my bad eyesight and spastic movements. Any suggestions?

I would suggest it is because you are overwhelmed by the crowds and get disoriented. The anxiety can cause any of your issues- maybe being unsure of yourself, hesitating while walking, which will cause you to bump, and the confusion of which way to go.

I edited "crows" to be "crowds" -sorry

I get the same way, in large crowds of people. I always manage to bump in to somebody.

I walk into things even if there are not crowds. I find that I trip and stumble if I am not watching my feet, but walk into things when I am watching my feet.

I lived off the main shopping street in town and every time I went outside I encountered lots of people. I didn't like to walk about much at all, I felt so tense trying to avoid being bumped, jostled and walked into.

I moved away to a smaller location and don't go into town at all now. If I go to the supermarket I always choose the half-hour before closing time when the store is empty. Shopping trolley/cart dancing is not my special interest. :)
I think walking amongst crowds creates conflict and we are more sensitive and need more space.

I have the same problem. I get confused and disoriented and walk right into things and people. The other side of that is that bumping into people gives me panic attacks. Great.

yes, I am constantly walking in to people. It can be either one other person or a big crowd. There is always some awkward shuffling by me to try and get around people, so I usually stay to the right. People often misread me (i'm not sure what im doing) and I misread them.
Symptom:
- difficulties with predicting what others are going to do (theory of mind)
-difficulties reading non-verbal communication

I do that sometimes, too. I especially hate it whenever I'm turning around a corner but it turns out someone else was turning around the corner too and I nearly bump into them. It's so awkward. :x

I do this constantly.. happened just yesterday as a matter of fact  and I'm always running into people.. no idea how and why and it's very annoying as I'm usually trying to avoid people as much as possible.

I do this sometimes ... but I am more likely to bump into doors, etc.

They say people with AS sometimes don't have a good handle on where their bodies end, and depth perception.
