When I was in College, there was a guy in my Programme who was giving me a hard time. One day, I've decided that I wasn't going to take anymore of his crap. The next day, another guy who was in the same Programme kept on telling me that I was English. I've thought that I was back on good terms with Guy#1, and I've told him that Guy#2 kept on telling me that I'm English. Guy#1 told me, that I DO act British sometimes. I was floored and I didn't know what to say. I've thought about the Afternoon Teas that I had to have, every Afternoon that Class was in Session. I've thought about the long, complex words that I've got a kick out of using. I've thought about the Routemaster Jokes, even though I was just refering to them as just Double Decker Buses. I've even thought about my Mock Interview Video, where my Ankles were crossed. I know that this has all happened, twelve years ago, but this voice in my Mind keeps saying, "Well? You do act British sometimes!"

Has anybody else been told that they act like they're from another Country?

People tell me that I act like I'm from another planet sometimes. Sometimes people say I act like I'm from a different city. Don't know about another country. Once I fooled a lady into thinking I was english.

I often get asked what country I come from. I have always had a "foreign" sounding accent. I also have a very formal manner of speaking. Usually people think I am from Britain, but I have also been mistaken for Canadian & American. Once, a taxi driver asked me - sounding proud that he had picked up on the "fact" that I am forigener - "So, how long have you been in New Zealand for?" Despite the fact that I have lived here all my life.

People tell me I have a faint British accent, but I've never noticed having anything other than a generic American accent.
Of course, I spent the first six years of my life in the United Arab Emirates, and two of those six at a small British-run private school within that country, so I guess I might've picked up a bit of an accent from that.

I have a few British notes in my voice, particularly my R's. I've lived in Canada all my life. Must be all the Monty Python and Dr. Who I watched in my formative years.

I've accidentally said things like "out" in a Canadian accent before.

I'm a third-culture kid (immigrant from Germany, early enough so I don't fit into German culture anymore, but late enough so I'm not fully American either), so if people tell me I act like I'm from somewhere else--they're correct!

People think I sound like I'm from the Carribean or an African country. My Southern accent is enough that people notice it if I'm in another region but not nearly like most people in my home town. I get the "where do you come from" question all the time, even though I was born in the South.

I do this as well! Even when I realize it's happening, I don't really know how to change my accent back to normal.

When I was in 6th or 7th grade I tried affecting an English accent because David Mccullem(sp) on the "Man
From Uncle" had a British accent and girls thought he was cute.It didn't help.
