I saw this and thought of us:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8689010.stm

Some of those statistics are interesting - 16% of the population apparently do not think there is such a thing as an acceptable lie. They can't all be Aspies.

only 10% of people said they are likely to lie to their partner.
I knew I was right! My diagnostician told me that normally people who are close will lie more to each other than they lie to mere associates. It always seemed wrong to me, and I'd been more suspicious of NTs ever since, until now.

And the bit about men lying more than women could be one in the eye for the theory that AS is a tendency for the brain to be more male that it's supposed to be......if so, why do Aspies tend to be pathologically honest?

Or maybe it's just a bad survey?

Yeah, there's no way it's as high as 16%.

Anybody else find it hilarious that people are lying on a survey about lying?

They might not necessarily be lying on the survey. They might not be self-aware enough to realize all the white lies they tell and find acceptable. It's easy to tell a white lie without even thinking about it. In other words they lie and don't realize it.

I think Marshall's got it. They don't count the little social untruths as lying and don't realize they are doing it. They are either very religious or very young.

yes, i agree. they don't think things meant to spare feelings are lies - "i didn't call you because i lost your number" and that sort of thing.

Women only lie an average of twice a day? What are they doing the rest of the time? I've been in conversations with co-workers about what happened during the weekend before and have seen women lie twice a minuet. Clearly they have a different idea of what lying is.

I bet they were lying. I can think of lies I would consider acceptable. Most people like multiple times each day.

But nobody wants to admit that they lie.

I don't know where this rumor about aspies not being able to lie comes from. I am an aspie, I can lie, and sometimes I do lie. Its actually quite easy.

My boyfriend and his father are both great liars and they both have Asperger's.
Though my boyfriend doesn't really lie because he doesn't have a need to, but he's great at lying in a joking context.
If anyone's read "Look Me In the Eye" then you've read about what a great liar my boyfriend's father is lol.

I don't usually lie just because I don't need to, but in high school I lied to my mother all the time and was quite good at it. She never caught me, so she was fairly trusting, so she never called my friends' mothers to check if I was really sleeping over at their houses when in fact I was at a boy's house haha.

I don't know where the "aspies never lie" thing comes from. I do know there are plenty of truthful aspies, but I also know plenty of aspie liars.
I for one am horrible at lying unless it's to my mother, so I guess I could be considered a non-lying aspie...?
