I've learned this one the hard way. When someone has an idea they think is the most brilliant idea ever to pour from human thought, and it just happens that you're actions/desires/ideas do not align with theirs... particularly if that idea involves the presumption of dictating choices you know to be your own... Anything you say that they can argue with, they will. Excuses made to such people, reasons you know to be perfectly valid to you, are just the thing it takes to keep them going. They figure any reason you give is your way of either seeking their help to solve the "problem" with doing it their way, or just you making an excuse to avoid doing the "right" thing. So you think you're giving your good, sensible reasons for not doing so and and they figure if they can discredit or refute these reasons, you'll give in and do things their way.
But yeah, that can be summed up as above. You didn't kiss their feet and thank them for steering you onto the right path, thus it's your problem for never seeing the bright side. According to them, that is.
