Problems with a presciption drug
Hi
I had some mild depression and at a lot of social phobia due to my autism. The physchaitrist thought it would be a good idea to prescribe Aurorix(Moclobemide). He insists I should take it, but I cannot stand to feel of it. I really upsets my sleeping patterns and I toss and turn all night after taking it. He said to take it with meals, but that still made be feel strange and make no diference. So I have decided now to discontinue them altogether as they are of absolutely no benifit to me.
Apparently he did not diagnose any autism or aspergers in me. He was only treating the symtoms of anxiety and depression which was only mild anyway. I have since discovered that my extremely obsessive behaviors and tantrems, irregurlar speech and frozen gaze were symptoms of autism so in the mid 1960's I was diagnosed with the condition by Dr Marcus Benjamin. They said was was a very rare case at the time.
Has anyone else here had any problems with that drug?
ask for different medication. different drugs interact differently with different NT people even, and the interactions can be even more pronounced or different for people.
be warned, however, the anti-depressant seroxat has been linked with increased suicidal tendencies.
also I took an anti-depressant (i can't remember which one), and one of the possible side effects was listed as 'increased micturition' (i.e. more frequently urinating). this side effect showed in me as wetting the bed at night. i was 30-something and i started wetting the bed again. i thought it was stress related until i mentioned it to my doctor and she checked the medication and mentioned it was listed as a possible side effect. so she changed the medication.
you just need to keep trying different ones until you find the one that works for you and improves your symptoms. even the psychiatrists and pharmacologists don't really know enough about the brain function of aspies to appreciate how the different anti-depressant drugs (developed for NT patients) will interact with aspie's different neurology.
That might explain why I had to get up at night and go to the toilet at night a lot more often
Another drug that was prescribed to "beat" social anxiety was stellazine. That really did nothing. I even tried in higher doses and all that did was made me feel highly strung.
Are there any other medications anyone has an issue with?
