When I was little I had problems eating with cutlery. I didn't like cutting up my food with a knife; my fork was my main eating tool, and because I'm right-handed I held it in my right hand, even though you're supposed to hold it in your left. I got into trouble for spilling food all down my front, and once for spearing a whole sausage on my fork and biting chunks out of it. "It's not a lollipop!" said my exasperated father.
Nowadays I can manage cutlery just fine, although when I sit down to a place that's laid with the knife on the right and the fork on the left I still switch them around. When I'm by myself, however, I abandon cutlery and eat with my fingers. If I'm eating, say, pasta with sauce I'll eat the pasta with my fingers and sop up the sauce with bread. If I'm eating something that's difficult to eat like this, like lentils or rice, I'll just scoop it in with a spoon.
I find that I much prefer to eat with my fingers. Does anyone else?
