Well, I was wondering. Most of the times, I eat due to my parents telling me that it's time to eat, or that I haven't eaten for certain amount of time, and that I should really get some food. If not for them, I believe that I could go days without eating. Also, does anyone get called strange because they're able to eat the same food for days, or weeks without getting tired of it? I actually prefer this, and since the topic's hunger and food...

I do feel hunger, but I am able to eat the same thing for weeks without getting tired of it. I prefer that, as well.

That's really interesting! :o I probably shouldn't be answering, as I am hungry now (must resist cookies in the kitchen 8O)... If I am intently absorbed in an interest I forget about hunger but that's about it. As for eating the same foods, I don't really get a chance to try that. But I keep breakfast as consistant as possible...

When left to my own devices I generally eat when my stomach starts to hurt or after a bowel movement (gotta keep the tapeworms happy).
It's also not a problem for me the eat the same food for long periods of time, given that the food isn't too greasy or spicy.

I usually only remember to eat when I've gone without food for about five hours, or when parents tell me it's time for dinner. I also have very repetitive eating habits, but I'm trying to change that.

There are times when I get so focused on something interesting that I forget to eat. I only realize that I haven't eaten when I get a headache from not eating or when a sudden wave of hunger overwhelms me.

For the most part my hunger response is normal. If I haven't eaten in a while, I get hungry, I eat, and then I'm not hungry anymore. Sometimes, though, I will be obsessed with some piece of work, and when I wake up in the afternoon I will go to work and forget to eat. If I go too long, I might not notice that I am getting hungry and then I am more prone to meltdowns and feelings of impairment until I eat.

I don't fell hungry most of the time. I eat when I am supposed to and sometimes because I just want to. I have never let myself eat the same things over and over. I have always had a strange feeling I might get stuck forever if I do. Now that I know I have AS, I understand that worry.

I cant cook & am a very picky eater witch really frustrates my mom. I usually eat a large amount when food I like is available but when I know I'll be going out to eat for supper; I don't eat that day & I usually do not seem to get very hungry before then. I also go true phases where I get distracted/obsessed with something & I'm to busy to eat & I do not notice it. I also sometimes get very nervous, frustrated ect & I can not eat then either. When I was suffering from a major depression years ago; I went over a week literally forcinbg myself to eat a few crackers/cookies every few hours because I could not eat a lot & my body did not seem to feel it

I don't know until I am starving. I tend to eat the same foods because it's easier but I don't eat the same foods every day for meals.
My husband thinks I don't eat well but I'm doing the best I can. I'm eating more now.

My wife claims to know when I am hungry - claims I am crabby. I wouldn't know - don't have the feeling, done sense ittritation.

I eat if called, will eat on my own if a. it is an official meal time and b. I need a break. Happily eat the same stuff and wonder why others don't like to. Have BIG problems if it is meal time in a strange place - picking a restaurant and then picking a meal is HARD. If I have been working or otrherwise stressed /tired I cannot eat as much, if I have not eaten all day I will go hundry if it is too late at night for me to eat comfortably.

That said - in a social gathering I will likely keep eating as a form of self preservation, AND once in a blue moon I am so worn out and shaky I run find one of my comfort foods and wolf down too much too fast.

When I was a kid, the physical sensation of hunger was an alien concept to me but it was as if I could drink up the ocean and STILL be thirsty. It's as if my brain had some sort of malfunction and the sensation to feel "un thirsty" was broken. Like some sort of Preder Wili Syndrome but instead of never being able to feel full, I could never feel "un thirsty". I remember laying awake for hours in bed because I was not allowed to have an additional glass of water and feeling as if I would die because I was so thirsty. I was miserable but my parents believed it was just an attempt to stay up an additional minute. I was always getting in trouble at school for taking too long at the drinking fountains and whenever I asked to go and get a drink my request was denied. I couldn't concentrate because I was so thirsty and miserable. I started bringing a water bottle but I was getting in trouble because I drank the wrong way and it seemed to piss off my teachers because I gulped my water. I was just that desperate. I've had umpteen diabetes tests as a child but they always came back negative.

As a child I often had trouble finisning meals becuase I already felt full and I could never sallow very well when full or anxious. Even today if I am too full or anxious, my ability to sallow gets "shut off". I've choked trying to force myself to eat when my sallow function was turned off. I JUST CAN'T sallow.

I know hunger gets the best of me, but it is possible to not feel hunger, but that means you have to not be able to feel pain. There is a disease of the nervous system called congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis which is very rare and rather dangerous ex. poisonous hornet sting and you are allergic but don't know you got stung unless you saw her get you.....or you see the hole in your skin. :(

Sometimes I feel hungry, but I usually eat, because I know it's neccessary.

Count me in.

This is a real problem for me when I miss a meal, because then I end up eating lunch late, and often times I decide to eat dinner's leftovers later and then forget to. Only way to know it's time to eat is to keep my eye on the clock and say "Oh yeah, it was eight hours since I ate last, I'd better do something about that." It's also especially bad because most of the time I don't bother to get in another meal between dinner and bedtime (4AM) which is up to ten hours inbetween :?

But sometimes when I'm really bored or at a party with lots of food, I'll just find things to snack on.

Oh, also if I'm outside doing tons of chores, whatever, getting completely worn out, I just will not feel like eating for a really long time.

Eating is not a priority in my head, I eat because I know I must. But I will get hungry if I haven't eaten for a while.

I'm a picky eater so I usually pick the same things to eat if I'm left the choice. Lately I'm more aware of what and how much I eat because I've set a goal for myself to gain a healthy bit of weight.
