There are very few in this group Dx-ed with Kanner's/Infantile autism
or any other disorder which often entails speech/language delays.

Some have been Dx-ed with HFA and that can involve speech/language
delays.

I can think of a few, but I don't feel it's my right to mention any names.

Completely and utterly verbal.

Most with Autism have adequate speech by the time they're adults (though it doesn't mean they have social speech). The nonverbal rate is around 18% nowadays, and these people are usually quite severe; only a small percentage probably use computers and can type/write, but here I'm speculating.

No, I actually didn't. I'm sorry you got offended by my misunderstanding of her grammar.

On this topic -
do people have difficulty talking or saying words at certain times?

Sometimes starting a sentence or sometimes spitting out a word or phrase mid sentence.
I am very verbal - sometimes too much.
I never stuttered as a kid & have no other verbal difficulties...

BUT, sometimes I physically cannot form a word with my mouth.
It will take 10-15 seconds of "reaching" for it in my mind (I know the word I want to use but can't SAY it)
I am 44 now and this has just started happening in the last 3-4 yrs.
It is almost like what I imagine someone w early stages of Alzheimer's goes through - as if the brain knows what it wants but the body cannot follow.

What is that and is it AS related?

i don't know for certain. sometimes people start noticing absent-mindedness more in middle age. or maybe it's a mild processing issue. i think sometimes AS "wiring" makes it difficult to connect certain fragments of information together (ex.:" i have the word, but i can't get it out"---in a mild form of it.) in a severe form, i really believe it's what leads some people to be non-verbal.

for example--there are people who can vocalize, but not in words---but can communicate with keyboard quite well. it isn't that they don't have the will to speak, or the language, for that matter. but there seems to be some processing disconnect between the language they know and the ability to vocalize it in words.

hi exhausted.

I hope I'm not "middle aged" :D
(although I have felt old since I was a little kid)

Anyway, this is not absent minded like forgetting keys or something - I don't forget anything, ever.
I think it is more likely what you said - a processing issue.

And it isn't trying to find the right word (I know the word I want)
It's a matter of "spitting it out" (but there is no stutter)
It's almost like when your arm is asleep and you cannot move it.
You fully well know you want to move it & are trying to, but it won't move.

My thoughts are completely articulate but I have trouble saying them - I'm not non-verbal but I can never say exactly what I'm thinking, it's like the words get lost on the way. It's a bit easier if I type or if I'm not nervous but it's still never exactly what I fully intend.

yeah i have troubles with saying the words i want to say. i don't process words too well either so what i say sometimes doesn't make sense at first and i have to repeat myself. people don't to attention what i say a lot because of this. you can definitely see it in my shoutout video. i had to reshoot it like four times because i kept flubbing up my words.

it's reaaaally annoying.
