Hi I am new. Feeling pretty fed up today and wondering if it were possible that aspies rule the world. Social disability aside wouldn't we be the best to head a society? Due to the fact we could make decisions based on pure reason rather than emotive issues.? Or would that be too harsh? Anyway in Britain we had Margaret Thatcher and she didn't show an ounce of emotion. She was extrememly patronising when interviewed and would not let others get a word in. As far as I know she didn't like taking a holiday and didn't have any during her reign. She couldn't stand it if others disagreed with her. And she managed to upset lots of other world leaders (especially in Europe). How many aspies do you think could be in such high positions? I wonder if we nurtured our confidence in ourselves to be impervious to social anihilation we would be invincible. Nice thought I suppose.....

Can? YES!! Should? not so much.

Our logic is great but when we are over whelmed we can and most likey will start world war 5, a war so big it jumps over 3 and 4. Plus why would we want to? Why would any one? Everyone watching every move you make, just judging and the press conference? Scary! I do think we need more logic in the white house.

No. Aspies are no more likely to be moral people than anyone else. And NTs are better at networking, which gives them an advantage in doing the job of running a country. Individual Aspies may become politicians, though I think this is rare and probably stays at the local level. It's just that AS doesn't give us the sort of skill set that comes in handy.

When it comes to improving a society, though, I think you are more likely to find autistic people creating ideas, technology, and art, and influencing society through new ideas rather than organizing other people.

From what I've noticed, all of this organization of people is what makes the world suck because the organization involved is through war, blackmail and greed.

Aspies can if there were others that were aspies involved. I wouldn't like the concept of aspies only because humanity as a whole really struggles to find moderation and having too much of one thing is never good.

If one side feels superior then they will try to eliminate all others or make their lives miserable. Why should aspies stoop to that level when we should know how that feels?

NT's could learn to quit passing off ideas as their own when it was really the quiet person behind the scenes creating and give credit where it is due.

Aspies could learn how to communicate effectively and not take mistakes so harshly. Both sides can work great as a team but it's always that pride and ego that stand in the way of unity.

The biggest mistakes we all play a role in is the further dissection of human beings. We splice and splice based on differences and alikes forming new categories which gives people the impression that those differences makes one group more human and the other group less human. It's the same old divide and conquer routine. If a so called neurotypical person can do it, so can you. It may not come naturally but if you really want that you will have to work at it.

Thanks for the perspective. I was just wondering what it would be like if I ruled the world. I would put in place ethical policies and teach cooperation. Today I am so gone. I have been laying on my bed for about 5 days. Anyway perhaps in a future society we could have aspies constructing the rules and processes of society and the NT's could just live by them? Am I being exclusive? I sometimes think that the rules and norms of society are based exclusively around a person who is not an aspie. Why can't we have a turn? Would be cool.

In reality there are likely a good number of aspies that actually do play major parts in ruling the world.
They don't do it on the frontlines though, they do it from the war rooms, and the strategy meetings.

They are the ones that create the science that we use every day.

regarding Thatcher not showing any emotion in her actions, BS, she showed plenty of greed and avarice.

I'm not sure we'd want to, Aspies have a seem to have a higher than normal population of INTJ and INTP, and we prefer to work behind the scenes rather than on the frontlines. like the Mentats in Herbert's Dune Universe. We are much better at setting up the over-arching long-term stratigies and systems while the NTs do the daily public facing short term tactical work.

I saw a movie called wild in the streets where the youth take over and put anyone over thirty in re-eduction camps where they were fed LSD. We would have to set up camps like this to re-educate the NTs. With the help of therapy, drugs, and in some cases labotomies we can make them act more like us. (Sarcasm) One of us, One of us.

I think that there are a number of people with AS/HFA in the world of politics. For the most part they work behind the scenes, since the same social skills that hinders us, is what is needed to work in the world of politics. You first of all need the social skills to network (utmost importance to get your name and ideas out there), to promote yourself and your ideas, and lastly, to put on a well groomed image. I am not saying that there are a few on the spectrum that can't pull this off.

I am a person with AS, and I am somewhat respected in local political circles. I have been active with our local Democratic party for about 10 years (on committees, have helped candidates with door knocking, general political volunteering). I have also assisted a little on a governmental level in helping communities in my area recover from a devistating flood a couple of years ago. I have even thought about running for city council or some low level political position, but have been disueded by people close to me as of late. I have gotten some respect in the local political community, due to my interest and involvement.

I have also learned that my AS and ADD can sometimes get in the way of my political activities. I have a tendency sometimes to critique things, which in turn upsets people. I also can be overbearing and obsessive about some of the things that I can do and add to the discussion, not knowing when to stop or quit. On the other hand, my AS causes me to come up with out of the box ideas that no one else has thought of, or to show how others have responded to a situation

There was one guy who might have been aspie who had a huge amount of influence over the development of New York City, New York, USA.

His name was Robert Moses.

He was a master planner. He oversaw the building of roads and related infrastructure (bridges). He also had very little interest in listening to the needs of the people. He allowed neighbourhoods to be bulldozed away to make for new roadways (calling the established neighbourhoods "blight"). Whole communities were destroyed.

The thing is - the man was a genius. He just needed some NT's to be a part of the leadership so that the people and communities would be heard. If he had this - all of New York City might be like Manhatten (not divided by freeways, but where citizens can walk everywhere or take transit and neighbourhoods remain intact.

Anyways, people like Robert Moses are vital to planning and should be in leadership positions. This just need tempering so that the human aspect of planning isn't overlooked. Likewise, touchy/feeling NT's are needed in leadership and planning - but they need tempering by aspies so that they actually get something done

I would like to read Robert Caro's Pulitzer Prize winning biography about him sometime. What little I have read on Robert Moses, he didn't remind me anything of a person with Asperger's.
