Do you find if you overthink and something really bothers you if you have AS it can take hours to shake off?

Sometimes, if I overthink, I end up completely unable to think about anything else and therefore can't do anything. That can happen and last the whole day, so it doesn't go away until I have a nights sleep.

Yes, I get thoughts (good or bad) in a groove and can't get out. I have always been that way.

Sometimes certain thoughts or patterns are stuck in my head,
and I can't get them out which is very frustrating. It sometimes helps to make graphs and write everything out.

Other times I get images in my head according to the state of my mind, like if I have a lot on my mind,
I have this mental image that I'm in a extreamely stuffed, small room. If my mind is empty, I'm in this large room,
in a bed, in the corner, the rest is emty.

I over think things, all the time, and it can get to be too much for me to handle.

Yes definately. I have noticed this is sometimes more intense when I have had a drink. And I have conversations in my head with people where I am arguing a point that they are against.

I have done this too, and sometimes I have a lot of anxiety over it. I hate it too. I really have better things to do than sit around or pace around agonizing over something that is almost entirely internal only to me.

Guilty as charged. Another way to describe it is "paralysis by analysis".

I've been awake for hours in bed going over every minute detail of something which is happening the next day and then when I get to the actual event things turn out totally differently.

Just go with the flow.

That why, when I was 7 I invented this rule that I was not allowed to think about anything real after I went to bed. Because I turned out to be thinking so hard that I couldn't sleep and became really anxious, which made the sleep that I got not really restfull. I must say, it really helps, I can let my imagination go wild and invent stories while getting a decent night's sleep.

That is an awesome rule. I might try it out sometime.

I don't think over-thinking things is an AS trait though. I think it's pretty normal for everyone. It happens to me sometimes. Other times not. Eh.

Being severely affected by it is a trait.

It can take me days if it's bad enough, and I've had issues come back to my mind months later.

ADHD can do that to me. The meds help me shake it off and be more objective about whether it's something worth being upset about.

If it was an embarrassing situation or highly emotional I can replay the situation over and over for days and will find myself doing at time even years later.

It can create a lot of anxiety and in some case I've found I have purged some things from my memory so as to not to have to relive it over and over again. Not mentally healthy. I know, but sometimes it's like a skip on a record and I just need to give the needle a shove.
