Thankfully, the NAS has come a long way in the past decade. The same can;t be said for a lot of places in the world though: Canada is officially the worst place in the western industrialised world to be Autistic and the US is mental about mental health.

Japan I heard is quite good; the prime minister was forced to apoligise for making disapraging remarks about Autistics I hear.

Canada IS the worst place for AS!

Noone seems to know or care much. If you tell anyone that you have a very mild type of autism they usually either laugh (because they don't equate a talking, functional person with autism) or they just think you are stupid and start baby talking to you.

erm... it's my thread, originally, and so i SHALL say this:

this is a thread about celebrating some good news. could we keep the doom and gloom stuff for elsewhere, please? let's have at least one thread which is positive - there's enough horror about having AS sometimes, and plenty of other places for it.

a polite request.

ta.

So did you, the only difference was that you knew you were doing it. I wish I'd been told to my face instead of this though.

It was a bit upsetting but I don't take it personally, it's just something that happened.

I think in the US, only a few states do anything useful or have programs or organizations or help at least a decent amount of it. Most all the research, organizations, or help programs in the US seem to be centered in Mass., Kansas, Pennsylvania, to name a few. I don't think my state is up to that level yet. Its probably the same with nations, some nations seem to have or do more for ASDs than others like Great Britain and Japan.
