If he had AS as a kid, he had AS as an adult. You can't outgrow it and there is no cure. I don't know enough about him to make a guess.

Dan Akyroid has AS, which I didn't know until recently. He's long been one of my favorite actors and musicians. He nearly bought a place near where I grew up...actually I think he bought it, renovated or built it (I can't remember if it was an existing house or one he built) and then never lived there. Oh, well. It would have been nice to have him as a neighbor.

It's funny you should mention that, because I was watching one of his music videos the other day and it got me wondering if he had Asperger's.

Now that I think about it, I highly doubt that Marilyn Manson (Brian Warner is his real name) has Asperger's.

Akroyd once remarked that he had AS as a joke during a radio interview. As far as I know, there is no evidence that he was serious, or that he has ever repeated that statement. That claim gets around a lot, but I don't think its true. It has shown up in a lot of "Famous Folk with AS' threads here.

Well, maybe I'm misinformed, but I read an article that sounded like he had a legit diagnosis. I'm a fan of his. Apparently his obsessive interest is the police or something.

I don't know him personally, and stuff gets around that isn't true, so I could be misinformed.

I think I found the article I read at a site about neurodiversity.

I do not think he was Hans Asperger when he was a child.

I don't think Marilyn Manson has aspergers, but his music appeals to people with AS.

Seeing as I am a person with AS I was included in your statement. I corrected you, that's all.

Okay, this is my territory as I've been a fan since '95. :D Manson certainly has some traits that could be mistaken for autism. And some could be actual autistic traits, but I don't believe he's on the spectrum. He definitely has an "act" and deep down inside he's a bit of an awkward and shy "dork" (which has been pointed out throughout his career by those who saw past the veneer). You see it even more now than back in the old days.

His mother has been institutionalized in a mental hospital for the last few years (she was out once AFAIK). The first time was right before him and Dita Von Teese broke up. He was severely depressed because he always feared that he has what his mother got (which he hasn't come out and named, but it sounds like schizophrenia). He discussed this issue in interviews back in 2006 when he was going through his divorce. I think one of them was in the archives of the (now defunct) Heirophant (mansonusa.com, also known as the 'Phant). He gave the 'Phant some really long and in depth interviews, and I really wish I had saved them to my computer because they'd come in handy right about now.

Speaking of that forum, his "mental state" had been discussed many times. One fan firmly believed he had Borderline PD due to his rocky relationships and his tendency to go from obsessive adoration to absolute hate, amongst other things. His autobiography from '97 was pretty revealing regarding his thoughts in regards to relationships.

Ha! I would love if he is! He has been my obsession since 1998. I have seen him 12 times, flown around the country, driven thousands of miles, saw his Holywoood concert 4 times, driving in my RX...drove from Kansas City to Houston in one day to see him 2 days in a row, I have even seen him in foreign countries. I know everything that is known about him, I have a huge scrapbook of articles and quotes I collected, and I have a large backpiece tattoo of him in his Holywood incarnation, done by my son Evildave actually, greatest tattoo artist on the west coast! I have a black RX7 with his lightning bolt symbol on the back window and I named it the Manson Machine, because I had a kick butt stereo installed to play his music. Me and Mason go everywhere together in by black RX. I have every CD and every vinyl record, all of the Manson figure sculptures created by Fewture Models. and photographs of him on my wall by my computer. Manson is the Man!
