Mouth explosions?
I have a strange question. I'm not saying it's got anything to do with autism, I don't know. I would say it's a sensory issue though, and I wonder if anyone can relate. It's hard to describe though. I've only tried explaining it a few times in my 43 years.
It usually involves food that is sweet, which I love. About 10 minutes ago it happened with a banana, but it can be a cookie or anything really, including non-sweets.
I take a first bite of whatever it is I'm eating and then it's BAM! It feels like every nerve in my mouth receives an electrical charge. It starts at the back of my tongue and in my cheeks. It travels into my jaw muscles and about midway up my tongue. My teeth feel it. There's some salivation. When it happens my mouth opens involuntarily and I probably look like I've just eaten something extremely hot and spicy (plus there's the flapping near my face that probably looks like I'm cooling myself off). I'd say it usually lasts anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds. Sometimes it brings tears to my eyes, as it can be painful. Right now, after having just had this happen, I can still feel the residual affects in my cheeks. On the painful scale it was a medium and lasted about 10 seconds.
By the way, I have TMJD, which is a disorder of the jaw. But I know it's not the cause because this has been happening since I was a tot, and the accident which caused my jaw issues happened when I was 11. Sometimes TMJD can cause excess salivation (usually accompanied by a headache), the kind where it's towards the back of mouth that often occurs before a person vomits. Like I said, these "mouth explosions" start in that same area of the cheeks (and tongue), but there's no nausea or anything afterwards. It's local to the mouth and has nothing to do with the stomach.
So...my main sensitivities are tactile and auditory. I don't like "touchy-feely", and can barely tolerate being held (I do it for them, not me). I also hate light touches and I'm extremely ticklish. Does this sound like a tactile sensitivity issue to anyone? Has anyone experienced this? If it has a name, anyone know what it's called? It's always baffled me. It happens about once every 2-5 weeks, so it's far from an everyday thing.

Yes, sweets are usually the culprit. Once it's over, I can continue to eat what caused it without a problem. It basically feels like a chemical reaction...to glucose, maybe.

Do you care to explain further? Sounds interesting.
I also have hypo sensitivities when it comes to my mouth. I love to maul sores with my teeth (usually on my lips) and place something salty, like a potato chip, on it once it's good and puffy. The sensation is what I like to refer to as an "oral orgasm".
