Brought to tears for atypical reasons?

I could have sworn I saw a thread about this many years ago when I surfed WrongPlanet on a lark and didn't register, but it did kind of get my attention, and stuck with me for many years thereafter. Sorry if this is a repeat...

I can't explain WHY this happens, and I have always made a very strong effort to hide it or make people think it's happening for another reason (dust in my eyes or allergies), but I get the reaction many times of tears starting for the weirdest reasons. I'm not even upset or angry or scared!

It seems to have something to do with transportation systems or automated alert systems or other stuff like that. Whenever my attention goes to the thought of these networks, really deep into it--the tears just...APPEAR! There is definitely an emotional SOMETHING--maybe it's awe at how those things function?

I really don't get why I get such a strong response--it's almost the same physical reaction as happens if someone says something I am deeply moved by, if a person near me has a very strong emotional reaction and I am moved by it, or I hear music or see something in nature that is beautiful, things that other people talk about responding to in that way. And I do have those responses, too. I respond to others' emotions, and to the kinds of beauty most people appreciate.

But what the HECK is this other thing? I'm honestly not quite sure what's going on with this one. I just KNOW that if I ever tried to explain this one to most people, it would weird them out even if I could figure out how to explain.

I am unsure, but what I am sure of is that I am certain it's nothing to worry about.

I guess I'm most worried about what might happen if the wrong person sees me and I can't explain it away. But it just seems so WEIRD, and I don't like not knowing why I'm reacting in a certain way.

High-pitched noises(especially the triangle in music classes) used to make my eyes water... But that's probably not what you're talking about.

Sometimes i go into tears because i'm frustrated or something.. A lot of the time i'm not sure why i'm in tears and it doesn't even make sense to me, yet it's happening. When i was a kid, if i ever thought i was in trouble at school i would go into tears, but i tried to hold them back(didn't usually work well). I've noticed that this has happened at work similarly some times, too.. Like, if i someone has called me into the back office and i'm in trouble for something, i'll start to tear up. I'm not sure why it happens, because the situation isn't making me sad.. If anything, i'm angry and frustrated at the other people involved in the situation. It can be the beginning of a meltdown sometimes, though.

Definitely sounds like an emotional reaction to something that touches you very deeply. Maybe it is being in awe of these things. I don't think it's anything to worry about, either.

Question: do you actually weep or do the tears just well up?

If it's the latter, something similar happens to me in reaction to "atypical" things as well. Well, maybe not entirely "atypical"--it's usually a strain of music or melody.

Said music or melody, however, is generally very brief and paired with an image....Yep, I'm talking about TV and movie logos. Some create the "welling," others create a shiver down my spine, still others do both. This has been happening since I was very young and I couldn't figure it out either!

Again, probably part of the same thing. It's not as weird as you think.

I'm not worried in the sense of not wanting it--it's more that I look at how that would look to others and I just don't see people show reactions like that from looking at automated warning systems, things to do with traffic lights or airport traffic control, or things like that. It's basically tears welling up, but I tend to suppress it really fast to avoid getting any weird looks. Alone I don't fight the reaction so much, though sometimes I still do out of habit. It's not like I'm upset, though.

As far as REALLY weeping...well...pardon me if this sounds crass, but I'd say the only times it has a real chance to go that far is if it's a certain time of month and something else has touched me off in a more negative fashion OR I'm just in sappy/sentimental mode.

And the logos thing has happened with me as well! Radio station idents do it too, and lately when I've been over to my family's house I've REALLY been having to avoid a reaction like that to the computerized voice on Minute to Win It. (I like the show...but yeah, I don't think my parents would understand why there are tears in my eyes!)

I so hear ya on this one. I cry at everything... commercials, if someone else is emotional and even over holding an adorable puppy or bunny or something. Sometimes even just thinking about how much I love my son or daughter. I"m a faucet. LOL First sign of frustration or anger there's tears as well.

I've had instances where I feel on the verge of tears because I think I've just had some kind of epiphany about something. It's like a light-bulb goes off in my head and I'm so moved by it that I almost want to cry. I've heard some people can only induce this experience with the aid of hallucinogenic drugs.

It happens to me if I can't explain what I'm thinking, or if I think I'm in trouble.

On Closing Logos Group, under every logo description there is a section called "Scare Factor." I've never been frightened by any--what about you? Do you think that maybe what translates into "scary" is just what causes this reaction (because a few that are categorized as such do that for me. Usually, it leads me to look at them over and over, if anything. )

I remember when I was little being frightened by some that were accompanied by a very low-pitched sound.

Also, the PBS one freaked me out. I STILL didn't like the look of it when I saw it just now.

But the NBC one doesn't get the "scary" reaction, but I definitely feel that weird reaction, or with certain Fox News idents.

Ah, PBS. That one is definitely up there in the "scary" category for many people. Which version are you talking about?

The top two "scary logos" (in most people's opinions) are mentioned on the front page of CLG. You may already know what I'm talking about.

If so, any thoughts? Btw, they don't bother me.
