I go from one special interest to another every few years and it seems like if I want to move on from one obsession to the next I have to become disgusted by my current obsession. Am I the only one who gets this way?

Yes. But, I do not think looking at injuries will ever disgust me.

Not disgusted as such, I suppose my interests just kind of evolve and by the time I realize it they've changed. I normally revisit them months or years down the line though.

How do you mean by disgusted?

I guess I begin to find my special interest massively boring or overly involved and exhausting. The basic 'don't give a s**t' mindset. Still, by that time I've invested so much time, energy, and money I'm loath to move on, hold on to the 'stuff' it requires... hey, maybe my boredom is just a phase & my fascination will come back. Not to mention... how do I get rid of this stuff?

I'd say this pretty much sums up my interest dissolution too.

I'm still not so sure I understand, what could be so horrifying that you don't even want to think about it anymore?

Yeah, but was she really your special interest or just a passing curiosity?

Nope, never had that. I get bored of them, but never disgusted, and I never make a conscious effort to get rid of them either.

Nah.

Sure, I'll often be seen as the "gun nut", and other derogatory terms, but it's what I like, and I harm no one, nor will I ever unless they bring harm with them.

The only special interest that I got disgusted with, was the one about the Late 70s Punk Movement, because I was what it was doing to my friends, family and myself. That's the only one. I've never got disgusted with my special interests before that one - Routemasters, Carnaby Street, The Kinks and Austin Powers, which is pretty much, what I'm back into, though I don't plan to cosplay as Austin, any time soon..

The more I try to get rid of an interest the more I spend thinking about it. The annoying ones tend to go away after a while though.
