Proposed group for those with Aspergers syndrome.

Allan Turner and Kate Stubbings are both BACP Accredited counsellors who have worked with clients who have Aspergers Syndrome (AS) traits for some years. Some clients have been formally diagnosed with AS whilst others have not received a formal diagnosis but they exhibit many of the characteristics of people who have been diagnosed.
We have wondered for some time whether it would be helpful to offer a facilitated group for people with AS. We would facilitate the group, but it is hoped that members themselves would largely self-direct in so far as both subjects covered and activities are concerned.
We anticipate that members of the group may want to talk about the difficulties they have experienced as a consequence of AS and also the difficulty they experience when interacting with Neuro Typical people. (People who do not have AS.) We also hope that the group would offer its members companionship and understanding.
Members may wish to undertake role-plays to practice skills they feel they need.
They may wish to discuss books or television programmes which they have found helpful - or unhelpful!
We are very conscious that people with AS can be very different and so there is also the question of bringing the right people together. While such a group may be very helpful to some people it will not suit everyone.
The purpose of this note is to find out whether people are interested in attending such a group. We anticipate that the group will meet once a month on a weekday evening and there will be a cost of £5 per meeting to cover room hire costs and make a modest payment to the facilitators. The meetings will take place at the premises of Counselling Works Ltd, which are in the High Street in Stony Stratford.
