i have a lot of problems with food. ingredients i think are contaminated and inedible and concerns over how food is prepared or stored. i worry a lot about contamination from bodily excretions, etc and have a very limited diet. anyone have something similar. maybe it is just my ocd but it has been suggested there is some overlap with asd.

I immediately thought of it because orthorexics are obsessed with the purity of their food. They eat organics because they worry about the chemicals of pesticides and they will not eat at people's houses or restaurants because they don't trust other people to care about the purity of food to the same degree that the orthorexic does.

The term originally came out of one man's observation of the extremist raw fooders who get very OCD-ish about their food, but I believe that if it is a real condition it would extend beyond just the rawfood communty to anyone who worries about the purity and wholesomeness of their food.

I know that I have to be careful with my own tendencies to get hyper-obsessed with the purity of my food and I know that, in my case at least, it existed before I started reading about any of the health food movements. I get especially itchy about anyone touching my food (which can be difficult because unless you frow your own food, *someone* touched it before you got it.)

I can't eat processed cheese, cottage cheese, or mushrooms. I don't like the tastes, or the textures.
