Who here has an animal-related special interest, or used to? And, to clarify, i mean things that aren't specifically about humans.. So i'm not counting things like human psychology or whatever here.. That would be too broad. So, i only mean something that involves non-human animals. Although, extinct animals or something like evolution would count. I know there's at least a couple other people here who do, because they make it obvious like i do, but i would think there's probably some other ones out there who don't talk about it as much here.

When I was between 13 and 17 I studied dog breeds. I was always getting books on different dogs and begging my Mom and eventually getting dog breed encyclopedias. I can now look at a mutt and give a good idea of which breeds are mixed in. I also know a lot of dogs requirements for show and they a typical personality of a certain breed.

Possibly my first special interest, and my most enduring.

Cats...oh, yes. Not just in terms of research--but I've found it calms me to watch videos of happy cats before I go to bed. Helps stop my mind from racing.

I've always been in love with animals, especially those fluffy ones...*not caterpillar*... the mammals like bears, dogs, rabbits etc... and the marine ones like dolphins

I've loved animals since I was a little boy. I love evolutionary biology, I love dinosaurs and I love animals today - both domestic and wild. Sometimes I wish I could become an animal and get away from all these hard philisophical questions we humans have to deal with. Other times I wish I could become a superhero whose powers are hightened senses, super speed, super strength and the ability to control animals. Also, my cat never teases me or abandons me - I wish I could talk to him so I could tell him how much I love him.

These days I get a passing intense interest in the social behaviour and intelligence of non-human primates, dogs and cats.

Birdies! And also other animals to a lesser degree, I have a Zoology degree.

I have never been without a animal related special interest. "Dog" was my first word :]

Between the ages of 5 and 11, wolves were my special interest, starting after I saw the animated film Balto. I knew everything about them, and I had pictures of them covering the walls of my room. I also had a lot of wolf plushies and I liked to draw pictures of them too.

My mom has told me that, as a toddler, I was obsessed with dinosaurs and lions (thanks to my enjoyment of The Land Before Time and The Lion King), but I don't remember much about that time in my life.

For a while, Cocker Spaniels became a second (unpaid) full time job. I now know a LOT about dogs. People use me to verify if Cesar Millan is correct. I have seriously considered becoming a dog trainer.

My dog, Chico, and I was interested in rats in 07-09, because of the movie 'Flushed Away'. :O)

I know that you asked someone else, but Benny could have some Chihuahua in him, due to the size he has, his paws and his ears, along with the way his tail curls.

Yes, I did as a kid. I read every animal book I could find on any kind of animal. I wanted to be a vet and I even got a job at an animal hospital at 15. It was a nice job for me cuz I really didn't have to associate with people much, only the animals. After a while though I saw that several of the vets there were evil and I lost my interest in veterinary medicine.

Horses were my huge special interest for years when I was little. My room had horse wallpaper, horse light covers, horse pillows, horse books, horse statues, horse toys, horse clothing, etc, etc. I don't think I went anywhere without something horse related.
