I was thinking about something at work today:

There's a complaint I've always heard parents of tv show-based toylines say, and then there's a question I always used to hear from parents when I was working in toy sections at stores.

The complaint is that there's no original concept toyline for kids to use their own imaginations; all the action figures were based on already existing media.

Now for the question I always got asked: "what does it do?"

I thought they wanted the imagination to prevail, then they're asking "what does it do"...........

LOL, you should have said "Use your imagination."

I'm then under the impression they just want to buy their kids what they want, really....

Probably. When I was younger some relatives would always give me stuff that I had no interest in, even when I would explicitly say what I wanted or liked. Actually, some still do that.

And I can't really blame them. Looking back at my selection of video games as a kid (among other toys) I have to wonder why I was so stupid with my money. I could have been playing FFVIII and Gran Turismo 3 instead of Mario, Pokemon and what not. I know for sure that I would have enjoyed most of the same things I do now if I'd have known better, I can even give proof - I've been playing Cyberstorm since I was like 10 and I still do on occasion (despite the non-existant replay value).

Definitely not in my case; my family did everything possible to try and steer me away from toys. Did you happen to notice what my special interest is?

I'm guessing toys. Everyone is different. My mom tried to keep me away from overly violent games (mortal kombat, resident evil, etc.) I have to say that pretty much the only rated M games I play are in the Unreal series. She tried to keep me away from drugs and alcohol, I've stayed away from those. She tried to make me stay away from women......HAH!

You should tell them the "incorrect" autistic-people usage. Like "it's got wheels for you to spin around and around" or "you line the dolls up in rows by size"
